Freedom’s Dawn #Easter #Poetry

penned in moon dust

breaking through clouds look through storm clouds

beauty to behold

colors of the rainbow

mercy to unfold

hold not to the dark

open up your heart

before the Lord seek freedom

make a fresh new start

*

nightingale’s song

 lily raises its pure face

morning glory

*

Easter is a time to be reminded of Christ’s sacrifice and renewed. But we can hold back and lay roots of rot and resistance. It is not God who holds back His goodness. We are the ones who chose not the beauty of salvation’s grace.

Leonard Cohen – Anthem (w/lyrics) London 2008 – YouTube

The birds they sang at the break of day Start again I seem to hear them say Do not dwell on what has passed away or what is yet to be. Ah the wars they will be fought again The holy dove She will be caught again bought and sold and bought again the dove is never free. Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crackA crack in everything That’s how the light gets in. We asked for signs and the signs were sent: the birth betrayed the marriage spent Yeah the widowhood of every single governmentsigns for all to seeI can’t run no more with that lawless crowdAh but they’ve summoned, they’ve summoned up a thundercloud and they’re going to hear from me. Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crackA crack in everything That’s how the light gets inYou can add up the parts but you won’t have the sum You can strike up the march on your little broken drum Every heart, every heart to love will come but like a refugeeRing the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crack, a crack in everything That’s how the light gets in. Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crack, a crack in everything That’s how the light gets inThat’s how the light gets inThat’s how the light gets in

Trigger a conflict and be prepared to pay the price, China’s foreign minister warns | South China Morning Post – U listening #TraitorTrump #LoserTrump?

“Tensions have risen … and one has the feeling that a conflict could break out at any moment,” Wang said Beijing in a press conference with his French counterpart, Jean-Marc Ayrault.“Once a war really happens, the result will be nothing but loss all round and no one will be a winner.”Whichever side provoked a conflict “must assume the historic responsibility and pay the corresponding price”, he said .

Papa is not here with me; he hasn’t been for 18 years. My limited vocabulary of about 200 words, learnt new words called death, war and Pakistan on the days following august 6th, 1999. For obvious reasons it did take me a few years to actually understand the implied definition of them. I say implied because, honestly, does anyone even know their true meaning? I live it and I’m still trying to figure it out especially in the sense of the world. My father’s a martyr but I don’t know him as that. I know him as the man who wore big cargo jackets with pockets full of sweets, whose stubble scratched my nose every time he kissed my forehead, teacher who taught me how to sip from a straw and introduced me to chewing gum. I know him as my father. I also know him as the shoulder my tiny self clung to extremely tightly hoping if I held him strongly enough he won’t go. He went. He just didn’t come back.My father is a martyr. I’m his daughter.But.I am not your “Martyr’s Daughter”.

Fire #Uganda #Atozchallenge

penned in moon dust

“There’s a fire” a boy points

it looks like dust

the men go to check

flames are raging

inside a small school

men and women rush

saving everything they can

“Get out before the roof falls”

fire brigade of 25 children

“pump pump pump”

children carry 20 to 30 pounds of water

I try to put a bucket on my head

my arms will have to do

brave men push brick walls inward

courageous children pump and carry water

one school is gone

I sigh with relief – “no one is hurt this day”

tomorrow a new challenge

*

Brave children

red hot flames of destruction

tired, sooty smiles

*

This fire happened 3 weeks ago while we were visiting Uganda. Our aim was to teach elementary children during the day  and encourage a home of orphans and staff at night.

In the United States we would stand back and…
