Double Blind
Isaac Asimov’s three laws of robotics have been repealed, it seems.
When I read Isaac Asimov’s three laws of robotics as a child, I assumed that I’d not live to worry about them in real life. What we don’t know can indeed hurt us. Time magazine frightens me sometimes. This week’s offerings include a small blurb about drones. When I was a kid, a drone was a bee—dangerous in its own right—or it was a verb used to describe an uninspired teacher or preacher’s monotoned wisdom. Now drones are robotic planes that can operate themselves without human input. Time reveals that technology has been developed that would allow drones to kill without human input. Asimov’s laws have become truly science fiction. Proponents argue that “collateral damage” might be minimized if we allow robots to kill with precision, and some have argued that the research should be prohibited. The fact that it has been developed, however, means the line in the sand…

‘WTF’? Republicans and Summer Lunch Programs for kids – City vs Rural
Cannot write my comment in polite society.
Wait a second.
Wasn’t it just a month ago that the Republican Wonk Wizard Paul Ryan was complaining about the lack of work ethic in urban inner cities?
So now the House Republicans want to cut ALL of the money for summer lunch programs in the cities and instead spend it ONLY in rural areas.
So yeah.
WTF?
What this amounts to is rewarding Republicans who are the majority in rural America while punishing urban voters who are a Democrat majority.
And using kids to reward/punish.
Republican family values.
‘I hadn’t heard about it other than in this brief passage tucked away in a Politico article about the House GOP agriculture bill’.
‘But it takes a small program intended provide meals to children in the school lunch program during the summer months and says it can now only be used to benefit kids in “rural areas”.
‘In other words…

A Republican World – ‘Waiting lists at the Veteran’s Administration is a moral outrage; which is why Republicans are willing to block the opening of 27 new clinics until they get new sanctions against Iran’*
GOP/SOB/RIP
‘In an effort to force a vote on increasing sanctions on Iran, the Senate Minority is trying to attach the measure to an otherwise non-controversial bill that would help veterans, immensely’.
‘And, they’re willing to kill the veterans legislation, unless they get their way on making Iran sanctions a part of it’.
‘The Senate Republican caucus is willing to throw veterans under the bus, just so they can run campaign ads’.
‘This is the situation’.
‘Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has introduced an excellent bill to help veterans, which is backed by every major veterans group in the nation, including VoteVets.org, which I represent’.
‘Among the bill’s many benefits, it would improve access to health and dental care for veterans, allowing the VA to open 27 new clinics and medical facilities, expand educational opportunities, reauthorize previous provisions under the VOW to Hire Heroes Act, including job training for veterans, and restore…

UKIP reported to police for shockingly racist leaflet
Glad my dad and his dad left Oldham in 1913 and that they are both gone now – so they would not have to be ashamed of racism in Oldham.
(not satire – it’s the UKIP!)
According to UKIP’s deputy leader Paul Nuttall, Oldham is the “birthplace of UKIP”.
Very appropriate then that Oldham UKIP has just been reported to the police for a shockingly racist election leaflet it’s been distributing.
The leaflet includes this paragraph which explains how Labour candidates supposedly keep winning in Oldham:
Here’s the full story from the Manchester Evening News:
Fresh election race row hits UKIP over claims Asian candidates are intent on rigging the poll
And here’s the offending election leaflet in full, if you can stomach reading it:
.
Ironic that in the leaflet UKIP complains the police won’t interfere in elections.
Because they are now.
