Medical experts: vaccine urgently needed to stop UKIP epidemic

Pride's Purge

(satire?)

The UKIP epidemic – which many experts say is in danger of becoming out of control across the country – may not end until the world has found a vaccine against the debilitating disease, according to one of the scientists who discovered the xenophobic and highly-contagious virus.

Professor Peter Piot, director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, said there was a serious risk of the disease – which causes those affected to hemorrhage common sense and rationality from every orifice of their body – becoming an epidemic.

Something that is easy to control got completely out of hand,” said Piot, who was part of a team that identified the causes of the first outbreak of UKIP in Skegness in 2005, as well as the present serious outbreak centred around Clacton.

Other symptoms of the UKIP virus – which within days can cause those affected to be completely brain dead –  include severe narrowing of the…

My 2 Cents….. – ‘Nurse may have had symptoms of Ebola longer than first thought’

Self-delusion and denial are as strong as facing the music and getting on with it!

taking away health care

‘Amber Vinson was hospitalized Tuesday, one day after she took a
Frontier flight from Cleveland to Dallas’.

‘Tests later found that Vinson — who was among those who cared for
Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the
United States, at Dallas’ Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital — had
Ebola’.

‘Authorities indicated Vinson had a slightly elevated temperature of
99.5 degrees Fahrenheit, which was below the fever threshold for
Ebola, but didn’t show any symptoms of the disease while on her
Monday flight’.

‘This is significant because a person isn’t contagious with Ebola,
which spreads through the transmission of bodily fluids, until he or
she has symptoms of the disease’.

‘But on Thursday, Dr. Chris Braden of the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention told reporters in Ohio that “we have started to look
at the possibility that she had symptoms going back as far as
Saturday. ……

My friend Abdul Rahman Kassig was kidnapped by ISIS. Here’s his story.

Hummus For Thought

The following is a story written by Erin Cory about her friend Abdul-Rahman Kassig, formerly known as Peter Kassig, who has been held by ISIS since October 2013 and has been recently threatened with death.

With Peter, June 2012. With Abdul-Rahman in Lebanon, June 2012.

I admit I have been stalling on writing this entry since Joey generously offered it to me last week. By now, we have all read about Abdul-Rahman Kassig, born Peter Kassig, and his plight in Syria at the hands of the so-called Islamic State. I have read perhaps thousands of words by reporters and people like me, who are his friends. But the truth is, the shock of seeing him in this situation, the pain of witnessing his family’s fear and grief, has taken my breath away and with it, the words to make sense of what is happening.

Tonight, for the first time, I feel as though…

Stepping Forward From Jaipur

Wow – what a story – I don’t have the cash to help but maybe someone who sees this post will help.

matteringsofmind

I have taken a step sideways from usual (long winded) story telling and bring to my reader’s attention a project that is in urgent need of some support.

Ask any Hollywood Producer and he will confirm the age old dictum of “never put your own money into a film”  well, a film maker friend of mine, Christine Booth has done just that.  For the past five years she has been traveling from the UK to India at her own expense to film the work of a very special clinic in Jaipur.  She began a “kick starter” campaign to secure the final funds needed to do all the post production on her remarkable documentary, adding the music, recording a voice over, colour adjustments and grading etc.

The Story:

Forty five years ago in Rajasthan, a young Indian Government officer, Devendra Raj Mehta, suffered a near-fatal car crash. Among other injuries, his…

Envisioning the Pedro Bank’s Future

Petchary's Blog

The Pedro Bank is a special place. Far from the island’s shores, it became a part of Jamaica in 1882. It is well known to many Jamaican fishers, but not to other Jamaicans. Now The Nature Conservancy is working with the Jamaican Government and other partners to develop a plan to ensure the Bank’s sustainability and protection. This press release from the Jamaica Environment Trust explains more:

Fifty years from now what do you hope to see on the Pedro Bank? This was one of many questions posed to fishers on the Pedro Cays and from South Coast fishing villages, government officials, academics, community-based organizations and other marine stakeholders over the past five months as part of a visioning and data collection exercise to plan for the future of the Pedro Bank.
