After the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Holly Michael of Wisconsin traveled to South India with her husband and joined hands with the army of volunteers to help in the recovery efforts. Holly’s husband is Bishop Leo Michael, a native of India, whom Holly met when asked to do an interview on the success of a small parish.
Two people from two different cultures, raised on two opposite ends of the world, found they are not so different when linked in the common goal of helping others. We need more like them in the world.
This is the story of Holly Michael, journalist, author, and to me: cherished critique partner. If ever there were a book that embodied love and compassion, a story written in such luminous, deeply personal prose, Crooked Lines is it.
Here is Holly sharing the inspiration behind her story — a short narrative complemented by photos.

Cool – Greek/Chinese duo rapping this vital product.
The service is based on a tablet that enables the user to initiate a video-call to the service’s helpdesk or to any person from a list of predefined contacts e.g. friends, relatives etc, with a single touch and vice versa. The helpdesk can detect potentially dangerous conditions and ensure the client’s compliance to the prescribed medication, by setting and monitoring smart reminders. In case of emergency, the user has access to a Medical Helpdesk, where he can seek medical advice.

My mother-in-law, once divorced and once widowed, was talking about dating again. I only write this here because I know she’s an open, awesome woman.
Let me be clear: she’s not in any hurry, but the conversation did come up when someone wanted to introduce her to a man. She is in great shape (late sixties), has the sunniest smile, and I’m sure she’d make a great companion. She’s also picky — as she should be — wants to know the family is comfortable with whomever waltzes into her life. And in case you wonder, we weren’t comfortable with this particular suitor, and neither was she after some thought.
This brought to mind two quotes; one from Richard Dawkins: “I don’t want to be only a survival machine, programmed solely to preserve the selfish molecules known as genes.” This assumes the conclusion: what’s life without love … of something or…

Have a wonderful weekend everyone and chill – and remember before caving into what the 1% says, ask yourself: WWZD?
What would Zapata do?
(not satire – it’s the UKIP!)
Why is the UKIP and the UK press openly lying to us about money from Mike Read’s Calypso song going to the Red Cross to fight Ebola?
The proceeds of the song were going into UKIP coffers – not to the Red Cross or any other charity.
But don’t take my word for it – here’s a tweet straight from the horse’s mouth (3 days ago):
.
Not only that, but nowhere on Amazon does it mention the proceeds from the song going to charity.
And the British Red Cross have said they have not even been approached by UKIP about benefiting from the song.
So why are the UK press lying to us?
.
Here’s the Telegraph:
Here’s the Mail:
Here’s Sky News:
.And even the local newspapers are lying about it:
.
Hate to break it to you folks…

Here’s a quick update on the court case challenging Government’s denial of information to the Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) regarding a possible transshipment port in Goat Islands in the Portland Bight Protected Area. I believe the judicial review continues tomorrow. Here is JET’s press release.
The Supreme Court of Jamaica today heard submissions from the Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) concerning the issuance of Certificates of Exemption under the Access to Information Act with regard to documents requested for the proposed Goat Islands port facility in the Portland Bight Protected Area.
The Certificates of Exemption had been issued in January and May 2014 by the Minister of Finance and Planning, the Hon. Peter Phillips. JET’s legal team, led by Hugh Small, QC, supported by JET environmental staff attorneys Danielle Andrade and Lisa Russell, successfully argued before the Hon. Mrs Justice Sharon George that the Certificates of Exemption were incorrectly issued by…
