Political Islam and Erdogan’s Wonderland

Erdogon claims remind me of old claims by Russians to have been first or invented everything to support their version of Communism.

Muslim sailors reached the American continent 314 years before Columbus.” The recent remarks by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have left many surprised and baffled, but the Turkish president’s controversial comments are not new. Just a month ago, Erdogan caused another uproar when he told students at Istanbul’s Marmara University that new “Lawrence of Arabias” are tearing up the Middle East. These two incidents have offered some interesting insights not only on how the Turkish president views the world, but also on how intellectual shallowness is used by political Islam to cover the weakness of its core ideology.

There is a tendency among political Islamists to hype up past glories and evade critical reviews of historical failures. Islamists have used such shallow views of the past to cover up the weaker aspects of their ideology.

Although the Turkish president has certainly been the first politician to…

Ebola: [New] Updated Charts

Mens et Manus

Last Update: 29 October 2014 [Charts]
Current Update: 19 November 2014 [Data Source]scale_11.19lcr_11.19monthly_11.19cumulative_11.19A few notes:
1. On October 29, the WHO reported ~3500 new cases and thus, a tremendous spike in cumulative cases emerged (shown here). However, about 700 cases were retracted between October 31 and November 5 (likely due to reconciliation of multiple data sources). To smooth the cumulative case and lab-confirmation curves, data from October 29 and October 31 were not included…
2. However, data from these dates were included for the monthly epicurve. Because a large number of cases were added late last month and then retracted in early November, the number of new cases reported this month appears small compared to October. While it’s possible that growth of new cases is indeed slowing, ongoing data reconciliation may be the most significant driver of this phenomenon.
3. Fully-updated data for…

“The audacity of this president to think he can completely destroy the rule of law with the stroke of a pen is unfathomable to me,” said GOP Rep. Steve King of Iowa’.

“It is unconstitutional, it is cynical, and it violates the will of the American people.”

No…..It’s against the (cough) ‘will’ of the teabaggers – The rest of Americans want something done.

immigration

‘Nearly three decades ago, there was barely a peep when Reagan and Bush used their authority to extend amnesty to the spouses and minor children of immigrants covered by the 1986 law’.

‘In 1986, Congress and Reagan enacted a sweeping overhaul that gave legal status to up to 3 million immigrants without authorization to be in the country, if they had come to the U.S. before 1982’.

‘Early efforts in Congress to amend the law to cover family members failed’.

  • ‘In 1987, Reagan’s Immigration and Naturalization Service…
