What Colour is your Soul?

Poetry for Palestine

Someone posed a question
“What colour is your soul?”
They asked

“If you answer this questionnaire
You will find out the colour of your soul!”, they said

My soul is a rainbow, I said
No need for a questionnaire
I know

My soul is a rainbow, I said

All shades of green
All tones of yellow
All shadows of blue
Sand and soil … grass and sky
Olive and almond … peach and plum

Flaming orange and burning red
Copper and crimson
Pink and purple
Coral and lilac
Silver and gold
Indigo and violet
Cobalt and scarlet
Aquamarine azure

My soul is a rainbow , I said

On 23 September, Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto received the World Statesman Award 2014, with the Appeal of Conscience Foundation citing his leadership and his country’s recent achievements. Three days later, his government entered the deepest and most dramatic crisis of any Mexican administration since 1968.

In the weeks since, in classrooms, on the streets and using social media, millions of angry citizens, especially young people, have been demanding Peña Nieto’s resignation. The federal government has come adrift. Its strategy seems to be to buy time, waiting for the…

Where’s Nick? Clegg hides during Osborne’s Autumn Statement

Digging a hole to hide in when asked wot’s he been doing?

Pride's Purge

(not satire – it’s Nick Clegg!)

Where was Nick Clegg during George Osborne’s Autumn Statement today?

Because he was there in 2011:

autumn statement 11And he was there in 2012:autumn statement 12 And he was there in 2013 too:autumn statement 13 But today he was nowhere to be seen:

autumn statement 14
That’s because he wasn’t in the House of Commons. In fact he wasn’t even in London.

Nick was busy digging a hole.

In Cornwall:

Should be pretty deep now after 4 and a half years of digging……

Egypt needs a complete de-Mubarakization

 Initially published in NOW.

29 November, an Egyptian court dismissed murder charges against Egypt’s former president, Hosni Mubarak, in connection with the killing of protesters in the 2011 uprising that ended his nearly three-decade reign.

The verdict was a testimony of what is wrong with the entire country, its leadership, the judicial system, both Islamist and non-Islamist politicians, and, more importantly, its youth. As a child, I viewed Mubarak as the man who had ruined my Cairo neighborhood of Heliopolis. As I grew up, I started to understand that his tenure in power had far-reaching consequences. Mubarak’s rule didn’t just ruin Egypt; he rendered the country incapable of recovering or moving away from his legacy.

The 1981 anniversary of the October 6 War in 1973 was supposed to be the usual annual celebration, but destiny had a different script. President Sadat was assassinated, and with…

“Circling Wagons” and Isolating – Netanyahu calls for early parliamentary election in Israel | News , Middle East | THE DAILY STAR

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday he would dissolve parliament and seek early elections and ordered the dismissal of his Finance and Justice ministers.

“The prime minister plans to call for parliament’s dissolution as soon as possible and to go to the people and get a clear mandate to lead Israel,” a statement from his office said.

Netanyahu, who leads the right-wing Likud party, also said he ordered the dismissal of Finance Minister Yair Lapid and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, who both head centrist parties.

“In past weeks, including the past day, ministers Lapid and Livni have harshly attacked the government that I head. I will no longer tolerate an opposition inside the goverment,” Netanyahu said in the statement.
