Nigel Farage: too many French terrorists deployed with poor command of English

does not compute Hal, does not compute, this guy is joking? if telling what he really thinks – he isn’t

Pride's Purge

(satire?)

The UKIP leader Nigel Farage has blamed the Paris shootings on the fact that not enough terrorists in France have a good command of the English language.

In an interview on LBC radio, the Ukip leader suggested it was “scandalous” that terrorist organisations in France were not recruiting people who could speak English well and said it was natural that most people wanted to be shot by attackers who can communicate successfully in English.

Asked if he wanted to “winnow out” those murderers who could not speak English, he told Sky News’ Murnaghan show:

“It’s scandalous, scandalous, that people are having to be killed by militants with strong French accents. We’re clearly not training enough murderers and terrorists in our own country to be able to kill in fluent English

“And I don’t know about you, but if I was going to be murdered by a terrorist that didn’t speak very good English, I’d be appalled.

#JeSuisCharlie: Muslims have nothing to apologize for

Hummus For Thought

I participated in the online support campaigns with the hashtag #JeSuisCharlie and I still support all attempts, by anyone, to highlight the importance of freedom of speech. I was never a big fan of Charlie Hebdo, but that they have the right to publish whatever they want is, for me, non-debatable. I don’t even debate this topic with people anymore. If you’re bothered by something, write about it, ‘complain’, do something – that’s your right as well! But that people are allowed to express whichever view they hold is non-negotiable. I couldn’t care less if you think that drawing a Messiah or a Prophet (capital M and P are intentional) is offensive. Being Offended is not a Right, it’s your choice.

This is what a no-offense cartoon would look like. (Not my work) This is what a no-offense cartoon would look like. (Not my work)

But this is what, besides the actual attack, bothered me the most: people asking, in their…

Film is a Living, Breathing Thing: The Jamaica International Reggae Film Festival, June 2 – 6, 2015

Petchary's Blog

I recently took tea with Barbara Blake Hannah, cultural activist and consultant, filmmaker, writer, former Senator, blogger, mother, devout Rastafarian. Yes, all of the above!

Barbara speaks in a low voice. She sips her tea. We commiserate with each over our lingering “chik v” pains. She has an air of quiet dignity, but just under the surface is a dry sense of humor, a sharp intellect. Once she starts talking about her life and career in film (all kinds of famous names falling from her lips) she becomes animated. The words flow swiftly. I scribble in my notebook, barely able to keep up.

But we were sitting in Kingston’s Tea Tree Creperie to talk about the Jamaica International Reggae Film Festival, to take place from June 2 – 6 in Ocho Rios. The…
