The Right to Vote

Power To The Voters

Voting when the Constitution was ratified was basically restricted to white males. Freeing the slaves and enfranchising them, allowing women to vote and lowering the voting age to 21 each took individual Constitutional Amendments to bring to fruition. Until recently, though hard-fought and excruciatingly slow, the direction of change has been in favor of including larger segments of the population in our elections, not smaller ones. Without swift Congressional action, this decision by the Supreme Court could result in a drastic exclusion of increasing numbers of people from the electorate unjustly.

Merkel Accused of Campaigning For Reelection At EU expense – SPIEGEL ONLINE

Being a little bit anti-foreigner, especially against “Roma-like Southern Europeans” is needed for Merkel to look “good” to the right in Germany

A few months before the German parliamentary election in September, Berlin’s EU partners perceive its European policy to be one of postponement, refusal and dilution. Last week, for instance, the Chancellery torpedoed a painstakingly negotiated compromise on new pollutant limits for the automobile industry. Because the decision reached by the EU ambassadors is especially disadvantageous to makers of gas-guzzling sedans like Daimler and BMW, the chancellor intervened personally, shortly before the Brussels summit, with Enda Kenny, the prime minister of Ireland, which held the rotating European Council presidency until last week. Now the decision will be postponed once again until after the German election.

Egypt’s Military Gives Morsi 48 Hours To Respond To The Demands of The People

Egyptian Streets

Egyptians in Tahrir Square and across Egypt have erupted in cheers following the Military’s statement. In a televised address, Egypt’s Minister of Defence, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, declared that the President has 48 hours to respond to the demands of the Egyptian people. The Minister added that if the time expires and the Minister has not responded to the demands, then Egypt’s Armed Forces will have the duty to intervene.

The Minister started by stating that the Armed Forces will not be a party in politics or leadership, but that the continued atmosphere threatens Egypt’s society and the people. However, the Minister also clearly stated that the Armed Forces will not rule the country, and will instead create a road map in cooperation with all parties, and especially the Egyptian youth, to create a government that represents all Egyptians.

Up to 20 million Egyptians had occupied Egypt’s streets yesterday in…

Breaking – Edward Snowden to seek refuge from US justice in Wall St

Too small to fail?

Pride's Purge

(satire?)

In a new development, Wall St – which is notorious for giving safe haven from US justice to hundreds of well-known criminals and gangsters – has confirmed that whistleblower fugitive Edward Snowden has made a bid to escape US courts by asking for asylum in the notoriously fugitive friendly gangsters paradise.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Mr Snowden said the ex-CIA operative was optimistic the eight-block-long financial district in the heart of New York would agree to grant him asylum because the lunatics have been running the asylum there for years.

Experts say it is a masterstroke by Snowden – who is extremely unlikely to face US justice if his application for refuge in Wall St is accepted. Although Washington has been aware for years of the numerous criminal activities taking place in the tax haven – not one criminal harboured by Wall St has ever been tried…
