Coptic churches burn amid violence in Egypt
Sectarian violence can tear the society apart – sectarian-like government already brought down the elected government. Step back and seek peace and reconciliation.
Coptic Christians call for greater protection as wave of violence sweeps across Egypt
By Mohamed Khairat, Founder, EgyptianStreets.com
Violence in Egypt has taken a dark turn for sectarianism as more than 45 churches and Coptic institutions were torched or stormed across the country.
The wave of attacks against Copts and their houses of worship, businesses, schools and homes came as Egypt’s security forces dispersed two large pro-Morsi sit-ins in Cairo.
In cities across Egypt, from Sohag and Minya to Cairo and Assiut, Islamists took to the streets attacking churches. In one case in Minya, a Coptic man and his wife were detained before being killed by armed individuals.
In one incident, Islamists torched parts of one of Egypt’s oldest churches that was reportedly built in the 4th Century.
In a frantic email to Egyptian Streets, a Coptic student in Minya said, “They are burning everything we own, and there…

It’s Just A Bomb
The horrors in the world seem to be stuck on replay – it has to stop before, all that’s left to do is for the last person left to turn off the lights!
A Separate State of Mind | A Blog by Elie Fares
I was watching a movie today.
What a mundane and worthless sentence to start anything with. But I was watching a movie today.
It was a quiet afternoon. I had seen a dear friend whom I hadn’t seen in a while. We spoke about our lives. We didn’t talk about politics. I drank minted lemonade. She drank coffee. The time passed.
But yes, I was watching a movie today. And it was a theatre full of people who were watching the movie with me. And less than five minutes from where the movie was taking place, part of my country was getting blown up to pieces, people were getting blown up to bits.
And there I was, watching a movie.
The theatre doors closed behind us as we made our way out of the complex. Look, an explosion happened nearby, my friend told me. Make sure you make your way…

Who Needs Cedars Anyway? Alf Malyoun Mabrouk Gebran Tawk
A Separate State of Mind | A Blog by Elie Fares
Mabrouk former deputee Gebran Tawk, even if a little early. I’m crossing my fingers you’d become a jeddo soon – if you’re not already one. Sorry, I’m not that well-versed in the Tawk family tree. But I’m willing to learn.
I get you. I really, really do. You love your son. I love your son too – we are all brothers and sisters of this one fine mighty (maybe not) nation. Ok, Cliche season is over now. If it were me, I’d want my precious offspring to have the most kick ass Lebanese wedding that many won’t be invited to, a wedding that would befit their stature and mine (if I had any).
I heard you’ve invited about 3000 people to the wedding in question. You know what they say, go all out or go home. The festivities will last three days as well. Now isn’t that just beautiful. Speaking of…

Zhengzhou’s ‘lactation rooms’ on public busses are exactly what they sound like: Shanghaiist
Zhengzhou has begun rolling out semi-private ‘lactation rooms’ on its public bus system, because nipples are scary. The curtain-enclosed seats are designed to sidestep the whole issue of public breast feeding by simply eliminating the ‘public’ element entirely, and designating a nice walled-off space for new mothers.
This photo published in the Dahe Daily captures the ease and subtlety of these lactation chambers; nothing like a huge red label and various onlookers to make one feel at ease.

100 years ago, no one would have cared and mothers would just do it. Modern is funny and dumb at times and this is one of them.
Police – desperate mothers now turning to prostitution to feed and clothe children
Wish this was satire – Tories needs to look for new jobs themselves
(not satire – it’s the UK today!)
Humberside Police have said they are seeing an increase in prostitution – with young mothers turning to selling their bodies for the first time in order to feed and clothe their children.
Here’s a direct quote from PC Lorraine Summerfield from Humberside Police:
Some of these girls are desperate to feed and clothe their children and they are going out to do that, which is really sad.
The number of girls working had reduced but, recently, it has flared up again and it is because new girls are going out, who have never done it before.
There have been a lot more who have come to it recently later in life because they are so desperate for cash. They don’t want to commit crime so they are selling themselves because it is an easy way to make money and feed their family.
OK –…

Muslims to shift to older mosque after vandalism near Colombo – The Hindu
Muslims to shift to older mosque after vandalism near Colombo – The Hindu.
On Saturday, however, a Buddhist group vandalised the new mosque, pelted it with stones and broke the glass windows, leaving at least five persons injured. Despite heavy police and Special Task Force presence since then, the situation in the neighbourhood remained tense.
The threat of a clash in the locality, where the government had imposed a curfew for two days, led to a meeting of leaders representing different groups and they arrived at a compromise.
(A politicized Buddhist group to be sure – sad to see this but lots of sadness still plagues Sri Lanka)
