Russia Warns It Will Arrest Openly Tory Athletes at Winter Olympics

Pride's Purge

(satire?)

Are you openly Tory or an ‘out and proud’ Conservative supporter? Thinking of taking a vacation to Russia this summer or going to the Winter Olympics next year?

If you’re a member of the Conservative Party and a trip to the iconic city of Moscow or Sochi is on your bucket list, an anti-Tory law recently passed in Russia may have you thinking again.

In a throwback to the country’s authoritarian ruling, Russian president Vladimir Putin has signed a controversial law that punishes people for propagating what it calls “Conservative propaganda.”

Russia has also said it will enforce the new law cracking down on public displays of Conservatism by pro-Tory athletes when it hosts international athletes and fans during the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

Russian Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth policy, Vitaly Mutko, said in an interview with state news agency RIA Novosti:

Athletes of unconventional political orientation like Tories…

Week 33: A Few Thoughts. Rabaa

Nervana

rabaa photo 2

Raba’a el-Adawyia, an Arab girl born in Iraq in a humble background was the fourth born child in her family, so her dad named her Rabaa, or fourth in Arabic. Rabaa was known for her ascetic life and for her Sufi poems.

In Egypt, there is a mosque named after Raba’a al-Adawyia that is situated in a square in Nasr city, a suburb of Cairo. On June 28, the pro-Morsi supporters picked this square for their sit-in; an encampment that continued for 7 weeks until the Egyptian police ruthlessly end it on Black Wednesday.  The crackdown, understandably, has created a shock wave around the globe. The images of the dead victims (more than 600) have rightly trigged a sense of disgust and outrage.  August 14 will be marked forever as a black, shameful day in the history of Egypt.

As I wrote last Sunday, the best way to deal with…

David Cameron’s back complains about having to support a ‘phenomenally bad Prime Minister’

Pride's Purge

(satire?)

In a frank interview, David Cameron’s back has told the BBC it is suffering from severe problems with having to constantly support a “phenomenally bad Prime Minister“.

In the interview – which was recorded several days ago on the Scottish island of Jura where the Cameron family has been on holiday – Mr Cameron’s spine said it was unhappy at being expected to be perpetually behind the PM no matter how rubbish he clearly was at running the country.

And in a tweet, Mr Cameron’s backbone later revealed that the prime minister could have chosen to have had an injection of competence last week but decided instead he would wait to see if his painful fecklessness eased naturally.

Mr Cameron’s back has been holidaying in the inner Hebrides with the Prime Minister’s bottom and neck – both of which have been confirmed as sources of…

10 Things To Do During The Curfew

Posting a photo of a dessert that tasty and good looking is against the law in the state of mind I am in! Smile.

Egyptian Streets

The streets are empty,  shops are closed, the only souls on the streets are those of the Military. This isn’t a zombie invasion: this is a curfew.

Instead of being glued to your television sets, watching your favourite host reveal new information on the endless chaos Egypt is witnessing, there are many more ways to escape the politics and actually enjoy being stuck at home from 7pm each night. So, here are 10 things you can do to make the most of your long hours spent at home.

By Farah Khairat, contributor, EgyptianStreets.com

1.) Work out at home; now this might not sound like much fun, but since it’s summer and everyone slacks off during summer, this is a great way to get in shape while you have the time! Whether you have an Android or an iPhone, workout apps are available on both, or even just check a…

On-the-spot fines for being common or poor come into force

Mayor of New York considering similar offenses and fines!

Pride's Purge

(satire?)

Pedestrians and drivers spotted being poor or working class in public face on-the-spot fines from Friday and penalties for other offences – such as being a pleb – have increased. The new fines are part of changes giving the police powers to issue fixed-penalty notices for being inferior.

Under the changes, the penalty for driving without due fortune or breeding will be £100 with three points on the driver’s licence. More serious infringements – such as being unemployed or disabled – will continue to go through court, where peasants and chavs may face higher penalties.

The changes are intended to give the police greater flexibility in dealing with less well-connected offenders, freeing them from resource-intensive court processes by allowing them to abuse more unimportant people at will without recourse to the justice system.

However, drivers with reasonable accents will still be able to appeal against any decision in court although scousers…

The Muslim Brotherhood’s Final Card? – Al-Monitor: the Pulse of the Middle East

Wael Nawara places the blame for the violence on the “scorched earth” policy of the Muslim Brotherhood, not the Egyptian government, and warns that the conflict is not over:

“While many Brotherhood leaders are safely hiding far from the martyrdom they had so poetically described to their supporters, we should not expect the end of this conflict any time soon. The Muslim Brotherhood elements all over the country are playing what could perhaps be their final cards. Spreading chaos and pushing the country into civil war. Toward that end, they are bringing out all their tricks. The sectarian card started with burning churches and Christian missionary schools, attacking shops and Christians’ homes in Upper Egypt, hoping to start wide sectarian battles. Another important card is the collapse of security. To achieve that, Muslim Brotherhood members and Islamists have managed so far to storm several police stations, releasing prisoners and stealing arms. The government response was to impose a state of emergency and night curfew for a month.”

Cyclist “Run Over By Cab” On Broadway And East 4th Street: Gothamist

A reader sent us photographs of an incident that happened last night: A cyclist was hit and apparently run over by a cab just after 7 p.m. at Broadway and East 4th Street in Manhattan.

The tipster told us, “I’m kind of in shock so you’re gonna have to get details from someone else, but I just witnessed this guy get pulled under a cab… According to witnesses the cabbie was clearly at fault.” He added that he wasn’t sure whether the cab driver was at fault, because he didn’t see the street lights, “I only saw the actual collision and the aftermath.”

The FDNY confirmed that a male cyclist in his 20s was hit by a cab (they received the call at 7:05 p.m. and were there three minutes later, taking him to the hospital at 7:23 p.m.). The NYPD didn’t have any details; keep in mind, the NYPD only investigates incidents where victims are likely to die or are critically injured.
