Rima Najdi walks the streets of Beirut with a TNT bomb | Interview

Hummus For Thought

Rima Najdi, aka Madame Bomba, in costume in Beirut

Rima Najdi, aka Madame Bomba, recently gained attention by walking around Beirut with a mock TNT strapped around her. Based in Berlin, she got tired of Lebanon’s volatile situation and decided to take things into her own hands. She walked around Manara, Down Town, Gemayzeh, Spinneys, Ashrafieh, Ras el Nabe3 and Hamra. I ‘sat down’ with her and asked her a few questions.

Why did you decide to walk around with a mock TNT bomb? What do you hope comes out of it?
My decision to walk around with a mock TNT bomb came out of the political situation that we live in Lebanon and especially after the two bombs – I won’t say last since one just happened today in Hermel – that exploded within a week of one another. The constant looking for where another bomb might be hidden made me paranoid and terrified. As a performance…

Unfold your wings.

Break the chains

Make fast your steps,

and be firm

in your will.

Know your value.

Believe

in your abilities. Respect

your ideas.

Break the barriers.

Do what your heart says—

not what others tell you.

You and I, we deserve

to receive love,

not to have our lips sliced—

the lips we tenderly place

on a baby’s cheek.

We deserve not to have our noses cut —

the nose we use to inhale our baby’s scent.

You deserve kisses of admiration.

Open your wings.

Fly higher up and up

Higher than any mountain, faster

than any bird.

USDA Greenlights Dow’s 2,4-D Seeds | Civil Eats

C#$P! !@#$!!! Have some Agent Orange with your soy sauce and corn flakes!

Earlier this month, USDA welcomed in the new year by presenting Dow AgroSciences with a bountiful gift: A virtual green light for the pesticide company’s new genetically engineered (GE) corn and soybean seeds. These crops are designed specifically to be used with Dow’s infamous herbicide, 2,4-D.

Dow has been waiting two years for the go-ahead from USDA to start marketing its 2,4-D-resistant corn and soy. And it now appears the corporation will get what it wants, despite strong opposition from farmers, healthcare professionals and concerned communities across the country.

Agricultural scientists warn that introduction of 2,4-D resistant crops is a very bad idea, and could lead to as much as a 25-fold surge in 2,4-D use across the country over the next six years. This would result in severe damage to vulnerable crops, loss of farm businesses and harm to rural communities’ health.

History ‘student’ who wrote in support of Michael Gove is really a Tory PR executive

Oh dear Jago (and Nick). Did you really think nobody would notice?

.

The amount of major spinning going on by the right-wing press at the moment, anybody could be forgiven for thinking they’re worried the Conservatives are in danger of losing the next election.

Pride's Purge

(not satire – it’s the Daily Telegraph!)

21-year-old graduate of History and Politics Jago Pearson – who wrote in the Daily Telegraph in support of Michael Gove’s assertion about left-wing thinking in universities and schools – forgot to mention in the article that he’s an executive of a Tory PR company.

Media Intelligence Partners is a Conservative PR company run by top Tory spin doctor and die-hard Thatcherite Nick Wood.

Here’s Jago Pearson posing as a History graduate just six months out of university in the Daily Telegraph article:

Left-wing thinking still prevails in schools

And here he is on MIPPR’s own page (click to enlarge):
