Evangelical Leaders Are Frustrated at G.O.P. Caution on Kavanaugh Allegation – The New York Times – Not worried about morals or ethics, just power! Hypocrites 1st class.

Worried their chance to cement a conservative majority on the Supreme Court could slip away, a growing number of evangelical and anti-abortion leaders are expressing frustration that Senate Republicans and the White House are not protecting Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh more forcefully from a sexual assault allegation and warning that conservative voters may stay home in November if his nomination falls apart.

Indicted NY Congressman Chris Collins Explains Why He’s Still Running: Gothamist Makes hackers look small – elect accused criminal so he can steal more? WTF!

Republican Congressman Chris Collins, who last month was indicted on insider trading charges by federal prosecutors, has re-entered the congressional race, despite initially saying that he would suspend his campaign. In an email to supporters on Wednesday, the three-term congressman promised to “actively campaign” for re-election and assured Buffalo-area voters that they could count on him to serve if elected. That promise comes five weeks after he was arrested by the FBI, following a year-long investigation into his alleged trading on insider information from an Australian biotech company on whose board he served. He was charged with securities fraud, wire fraud, and making false statements and released on $500,000 bail. “The stakes are too high to allow the radical left to take control of this seat in Congress,” Collins wrote in the statement. “Their agenda is clear. They want to reverse the recently enacted tax cuts, impose Canadian style healthcare, inflict new job-killing regulations and impeach President Trump.”

Vladimir Putin, then head of the KGB in Saxony, who was involved in the Soviet drive to halt reform. “At the time he was a major. Admittedly he was the head of the KGB in Saxony but he was an unknown,” said Shore. “His presence at the rallies and other locations just confirmed the Russians and East German authorities were doing their best to stamp out the freedom movement. There was no hint that one day he might become the most powerful and dangerous man on the planet. My personal paranoia grew, which it does when you’re working alone and undercover – he quickly became an itch I couldn’t scratch. He was just always there.”

America last: Trump has brought US to irrelevance in Syria | World news | The Guardian

Yet Trump has furthered weakened the US position through his kowtowing to Russia. Attention in Washington is focused on Russian subversion of the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion. The furore has obscured Russia’s many malign activities elsewhere, notably in Syria. Trump’s irrelevance will be highlighted on Friday when Iran hosts a summit in Tehran with Russia and Turkey to discuss a “phased” Idlib offensive and what Moscow calls “long-term normalisation” in postwar Syria. The US is not at the table. Its views on Idlib or the country’s future will not be heard.

The New Yorker has dropped Steve Bannon from its festival – and played right into his hands | Arwa Mahdawi | Opinion | The Guardian

The New Yorker’s decision to give Bannon a platform was irresponsible and immoral. While it has rescinded the invitation, harm has already been done. Indeed, I imagine that getting invited and then uninvited from the festival was Bannon’s dream scenario. First he gained intellectual legitimacy by having the New Yorker announce him as a headliner. Then he got to do what the far right seems to enjoy doing the most: play the victim. No doubt extremists everywhere are dashing off opinion pieces about how conservative views are being censored by the liberal media.
