Settlements showdown beckons for Netanyahu in Berlin | Maan News Agency

One of the areas Netanyahu said would be subject to preliminary planning work is the so-called “E1” zone east of Jerusalem, a prospect that has stoked particular alarm.

“E1 is not just another settlement. E1 is of enormous strategic importance. E1 … would cut off East Jerusalem once and for all from the West Bank, thereby making a two-state solution practically impossible,” said Ruprecht Polenz, a member of Merkel’s Christian Democrats and head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag lower house.

Should E1 go ahead, Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman would “bury the dream of a democratic, Jewish state” by creating instead an entity that would have to include a large Palestinian population, he said.

“The (German) government should do everything to turn Israel from this path in the coming inter-governmental talks,” he said.

Empowering Palestinian Women In and Through Media

Commitment by: NISAA Broadcast Radio Company

In 2012, 96 NISAA FM, a woman-owned radio station in the West Bank, committed to train and eventually hire community reporters and students in radio reporting and broadcasting. In order to work against gender stereotypes in media by increasing both women’s roles in media leadership as well as positive representations of women in media, every trainee will learn essential reporting skills, such as gathering news from the field, producing audio reports, reporting live, and working inside the NISAA studio.

Blog to End the Occupation: Israel to Demolish Eight Palestinian Villages

Treating “people as if they were weeds” Shameful…

Yesterday Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered the demolition of eight Palestinian villages in the South Hebron Hills, displacing some 1,500 residents. The order came after the Israeli High Court of Justice issued its decision supporting the move, agreeing with a 2000 finding by the Israeli Civil Administration that “there were no permanent residents in the area” and that those present were merely seasonal residents. The IDF has argued since 1999 that the villages needed to be destroyed because their presence has prevented the IDF from performing live fire drills in the zone. They also claimed that Palestinians in the zone could collect intelligence on Israeli tactics or gather weapons left over from training exercises and then “use them for terror purposes.”
