A crowd of people, thinking the Eritrean man was the culprit, then surrounded him and began beating him, while several others rushed to his side in an attempt to protect him.The man died later that night in hospital.Reasons for the man’s shooting are still unclear. Government officials and members of the media have reacted with disgust at the man’s death.”It’s terrible,” said Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon, according to the Associated Press news agency. “It shows you what a terrible situation we are in.”Speaking to members of his Likud Party on Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was a “law abiding” country where “no one should take the law into their own hands.”

The Director of Caritas Jerusalem: the block of East Jerusalem feeds anger and feelings of revenge – Fides News Agency

“The imposition of Israeli checkpoints in Palestinian areas of Jerusalem represents a ‘safety measure’ that provides no security, but on the contrary increases anger and frustration, and thus feeds feelings of revenge”. This is how Father Raed Abusahliah, Director General of Caritas Jerusalem evaluates the potential negative effects of the closure of areas of East Jerusalem, where attacks by Palestinian suicide bombers in recent days have caused the deaths of several Israeli citizens. “In my opinion”, said Fr. Raed “they can impose all the blocks they want, but this will not ensure safety. The only way to achieve security and stability for all is to restore freedom to the Palestinian people”.

At a meeting of the security cabinet that finished in the early hours, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also allowed revocation of residency rights of Palestinians deemed to have committed “terrorism” and a step-up in the demolition of homes of people who carry out attacks.Seven Israelis and 30 Palestinians, including children and attackers, have died in two weeks of violence including stabbings, shootings, car rammings and security crackdowns that have stirred memories of past Palestinian uprisings. The causes of the turmoil are multiple, but Palestinians are angry about what they see as increased Jewish encroachment on the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City, an area that is holy to both Muslims and Jews.

What attracted us about CGI is the fact that it is a platform for creative ideas. CGI members are looking for solutions to challenging problems all over the world, and with Palestine being one of the most vulnerable countries, we have many challenging problems. Specifically, we are working to support Palestinian steadfastness and empowering Palestinians by fostering excellence and nurturing talent, so that they can stay in their country and they can help develop their community, and develop the future Palestine we all aspire to, a democratic state where all Palestinians live in dignity and prosperity.Attending CGI is a chance to meet with other members to talk about Palestinian problems, and to talk about these same problems at a global level. It helps us to develop programs that will reflect on the development of Palestine and fulfill our organizational goals, and will also allow us to fulfill our commitment to the world in terms of cooperating with other countries. We are coming to CGI with a commitment to enhance the employability of Palestinian youth, and also in Tunisia. This is the first work that the Welfare Association will do beyond the borders of Palestine, and the idea came from being engaged in and attending CGI, which is a platform for inspiration, dialogue and discussion. It gives hope, and we feel that we are contributing to humanity at the global level. In addition, the Welfare Association is also hoping to strengthen existing and create new partnerships with other members. It’s really the way forward, if we’re thinking about better impact. It’s also very important for us to find people who will support this initiative in-kind, and through financial contributions, in order to reach our goal.
