On September 30, 1973 a plane carrying Croce and five other people crashed upon takeoff as he was leaving one college venue to another 70 miles away. No one survived the accident, and among those killed was Maury Muehleisen, who played guitar on Croce’s albums.

The song, released as a single in December 1973, hit the spot just 14 weeks after Croce’s death.

Alison.

I featured this song previously on this blog, but last night it popped into my head again, and reminded me just how much I like it.

In 1977, a new band arrived on the music scene in Britain, Elvis Costello and The Attractions. Often regarded as being in the Punk Rock genre, their songs and music style were actually nothing like the mostly untalented Punk scene. Their first album, ‘My Aim Is True’ contained the track ‘Alison’, which was also released as a single but did not make the charts. It was later covered by Linda Ronstadt, selling 2 million copies.

Elvis Costello’s real name is Declan McManus, and he is well-known internationally as a performer and songwriter. Now 70 years old, he is still very active in music.
