How this became California’s worst summer COVID wave in years. ‘Came out of the blue’ – Los Angeles Times

California has now reported four straight weeks with “very high” coronavirus levels in its wastewater, according to data released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday. That followed five weeks of “high” viral levels.

Line chart shows COVID levels in wastewater. For the week ending on Aug. 3, the California level is 13.2, considered very high. Nationwide, the level is very high at 9.01.

Last summer, California recorded only eight weeks with “high” coronavirus levels in wastewater, and never hit “very high” levels. In the summer of 2022, California spent 16 weeks with “high” or “very high” levels of coronavirus in wastewater.

“Fewer people got immunized this year compared to last year at this time,” Chin-Hong said. “That means, particularly amongst people who are older, they’re just not equipped to deal with this virus.”

There are 44 states with “high” or “very high” coronavirus levels in their wastewater, according to the CDC. Five states, and the District of Columbia, have “moderate” levels, and there were no data for North Dakota.

(Me: not out of the blue… pretend Covid is over, stop masking up and boom… back it comes… worst part? no one can predie]ct if you just had mild case before that the next one will be mild or in the hospital, long Covid or death!)

There was a time when I connected to that song by The Carpenters, “Rainy Days and Mondays” after a weekend break from school or work. When that alarm went off on Monday morning, oh how I dreaded getting out of bed just to drag to the bathroom as if my feet were bound to cinderblocks in an ocean. It seemed like that 48-hour break zoomed by at warp speed. Finally, once I woke up and realized there was not a darn thing I could do about Monday’s arrival, or catching some extra sleep if it was raining, I commenced to my appointed tasks.

Some days, we feel like we are beaten down before we are threatened with a beatdown. That feeling of dread just washed over you because you expected it, instead of a “seize the day” mentality. So, as I prepare for this week’s journey, I won’t let my spirit die, due to the fear of what might be. You may have to weather a storm, but be grateful when you go through it and find a victory you least expect waiting for you.

Stand up and shake it off! If you need a little inspiration and motivation, check out this 1989 hit, “Get On Your Feet” from Gloria Estefan. It’s perfectly okay to turn it loose and let it go! Have a FANtabulous day and week everyone!
