Songs I Like (103) | beetleypete

This is something you will rarely see on this blog, a Rock Music song. Not a genre I usually enjoy listening to, but every so often a song came along that got in my head and I ended up buying it.

This was the case in 1990, when I heard this song on the car radio by an American band called Faith No More. I bought the CD single the next day, though I never heard anything from them after that. I thought of the song two days ago for some reason, and it keeps playing in my head.

The mind is a strange thing indeed.

A quick look on Wikipedia tells me that they continued to work and perform until 2019, but division among the members caused them to split up in 2022.

दूरी / Distance  – Kaushal Kishore

🪔 🪔 🪔 🪞 🪞 🪞

To witness the lamp’s warm, golden light,

One must keep a certain distance in sight…

Too near, and the light will blind your eyes,

But step away, and its beauty will surprise…

.

So too with the mirror, viewing your face,

A backward step unveils your true grace…

Too close, and the image will blur and fade,

But from afar, your reflection will cascade…

.

Your Mindset When You Set Your Mind 🤔 | From Behind the Pen

Ah yes, tis the season after New Year’s Day and it’s already showing evidence of the exercising resolutions beginning to wane. So, you need to lose a few pounds here or there or everywhere? On New Year’s Day, I saw a slew of walkers and joggers donning the sidewalk and pathways around our neighborhood with hoodies, new sneakers, and a sense of determination, like the Boston Marathon participants. Looking at all of these folks made me want to go outside, and say “Howdy neighbor, I haven’t seen you around here before,” but I thought, “Nah, I’m good in my warm house walking on my treadmill, specifically designed for this type of weather with my already “Richard Simmons and Jane Fonda” exercise workout routines of yesteryear.

Now, less than a week from New Year’s Day, I see fewer walkers, and a handful of those walkers I recognize were mostly dog walkers from the previous years on their frequent strolls. And many of those newbies I see walking are strolling while talking on their phones. Is this really exercising I thought? And how much energy is really used on walking, talking or simply strolling while kicking rocks and taking selfies? I am not exaggerating either! 🤳🏼

But this isn’t about losing weight. Some say, “No pain, no gain” and I found that can be true to a certain extent. But I also found that when we ambitiously overextend ourselves by trying to gain through the pain as fast as we can, that in itself can depend on our level of tolerance that could lead to our success. If we aren’t careful, this aggressive level of thinking can be a deterrent to achieving the desired goals we hope to achieve.

Yet for me, it’s all about “my” mindset. Whatever my goal is, no matter its resistance level of doability, is what I commit myself to, based on what it is that I want to achieve. So, my reality check: “If your mind isn’t in it, then how can you expect the rest of your body to cooperate?” That’s the primary question I asked myself. How do you “set” your “mind” to achieve your goals? Sometimes, I still wonder about that! 🤔
