Santa Clarita Deputies Pull Guns on Teens Attacked by Homeless Man – (Clearly profiling teens who had been under attack)

So basically, the cops responded to “uncooperative” people who the video shows were only asking them to stop pointing their guns at the victims of an assault, by calling more cops to the scene…who also pointed their guns at the victims, according to witnesses.

Even if it’s true that they “received a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon, a skateboard,” as Lt. Ethan Marquez with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station claims, that doesn’t explain why they ignored all the people explaining to them clearly that the teens were not the attackers. A woman claiming to be the manager of the Buffalo Wild Wings and also the person who called them to the scene can be heard trying to explain that they were pulling guns on the wrong people.

KHTS reports that officers had detained two “suspects” who have since been released. It’s unclear if the homeless man who reportedly started all of this was ever found. According to KHTS the investigation into the alleged assault on the teens is still ongoing.

Sonoran Officials: Youth Responsible For Most Coronavirus Spread | Fronteras – Mexico

As in Arizona, leaders in neighboring Sonora, Mexico, continue to struggle to tamp down on the spread of the coronavirus. And the state’s health secretary says young people are most responsible for proliferating the virus.

On Saturday, Sonoran officials announced another 363 coronavirus cases and 39 deaths. State Health Secretary Enrique Clausen says youth bear responsibility for much of the continued spread of the virus.

“We’re going to say it clearly and we’re going to say it loud: the people who are most spreading and contaminating COVID-19 in the community are young people,” Clausen said during a press conference Saturday evening.

He said youth who have asymptomatic cases of coronavirus are inadvertently spreading it to others by not taking necessary precautions, and he told anecdotes about people who died after contracting the virus from family members.

Clausen urged youth to protect their loved ones and others in the community by staying home and being more vigilant about wearing face coverings, washing their hands and maintaining a safe distance when they must go out.

As of Saturday, there were a total of 23,132 confirmed coronavirus cases and 2,163 confirmed deaths in the state.

At least 14 journalists injured while covering Beirut protests | RSF

“The attacks against journalists are growing in Lebanon,” said Sabrina Bennoui, the head of RSF’s Middle East desk. “It is very disturbing to see the security forces target journalists who are reporting from within the ranks of the demonstrators. Attacks of this kind, which are increasing in frequency, must be stopped as a matter of the utmost urgency.”

Aside from the journalists with injuries that needed hospitalization, reporters found it very hard to work because of all the teargas fired by the security forces.

Many journalists have been the victims of attacks by both security forces and demonstrators ever since a wave of anti-government protests began in Lebanon in October. Lebanon is ranked 102nd out of 180 countries in RSF’s 2020 World Press Freedom Index, one place lower than in 2019.

‘I can’t sleep, I can’t even cry’: NGO worker on rebuilding Beirut after blast

Staff at NGO Care distributing aid at Saint Joseph University in Beirut, August 8, 2020.

I’m still in shock. I’m so numb I can’t really feel anything. I’ve only slept 12 hours in total since the blast. I can’t sleep, I can’t even cry; I still haven’t really processed what happened. Every day I’ve found out that someone I knew – of whom I was fond – has died, or that some beloved part of the city has been wiped off the map. It will take a lot of time before I can come to terms with all the destruction and start to mourn.

The NRA and the Long Con — The Weekly Sift

The New York and D.C. attorneys general have uncovered self-dealing, lavish spending on executive luxuries, and outright fraud at the National Rifle Association. Why is the conservative movement such fertile ground for this kind of thing? Alarm bells. In 1973 I was a junior in high school, and a friend who had recently discovered the […]
