The Blade: Sherrod Brown: In crisis, Ohioans need Biden’s leadership

Last week, Donald Trump tweeted to his 85 million followers that they should stop buying products made by Akron, Ohio-based Goodyear because of what he viewed as a personal affront.

Goodyear employs 3,300 people in Akron. These are good-paying jobs – many of them union. These are people who take pride in their work, in taking care of their families, in helping to strengthen their communities.

In just one tweet, President Trump put their livelihoods at risk. This comes after spending years making his own Trump-branded products overseas.

How insulting – not only to Goodyear workers, their families, and the State of Ohio, but also to their suppliers and retailers all over the country.

Maya Angelou once said, “When people show you who they are, believe them.”

This is who Donald Trump is. He has made it clear: He doesn’t care about workers and he’s willing to risk American jobs to try to save his own.

He’s not even trying to cover up the fact that he will betray workers to save his own brand anymore. Just like he stopped pretending to care about essential, frontline workers once he learned that those most likely to get sick and die from COVID-19 were Black and brown workers.

Thousands of Farmers Sign Congressional Call to Action on the Climate Crisis – National Sustainable Agriculture CoalitionNational Sustainable Agriculture Coalition

Every farmer stands on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Last year, farmers and ranchers within the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) network mobilized to make certain that policymakers understood their concerns and desires to challenge the climate crisis head-on. NSAC members worked with other farmers and ranchers to draft a letter that lifts up farmer voices on Capitol Hill and brings attention to the actions needed to include farmers and ranchers as part of the climate solution. Last week, the letter, with 2,130 signatures from farmers and ranchers across the country, was delivered to the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis (Select Committee).

Donald Trump insists schools reopen, but some parents, teachers and children fear coronavirus – ABC News

There is a sadness and anger in equal measure when 29-year-old American primary school teacher Ashley Newman speaks.

The Georgia educator with five years of experience had planned to spend her whole working life helping prepare young minds for the wider world.

But her world crashed when the school system insisted she return to the classroom and face-to-face teaching.

In a state where coronavirus has spiked, she had a big decision to make: Go back to school and risk infection, or resign to protect her and her family’s health.

She decided to quit rather than gamble with her husband and two-year-old’s wellbeing.

PM and chancellor Rishi Sunak play down talk of extensive tax rises in autumn budget

Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak have vowed to keep taxes low, in a coordinated attempt to calm mutinous Conservative MPs angered and unsettled by the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis.

In a series of briefings with so-called “red wall” Tories, the prime minister and the chancellor sought to play down suggestions that the autumn budget would include extensive tax increases to reduce the budget deficit.

GOP Congressman to Black Protesters: “I’d Drop Any 10 of You Where You Stand” – Mother Jones (What will House of Representatives or House GOP do about this guy?)

On Tuesday, Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.), posted a picture of armed Black demonstrators on Facebook and captioned it with a threat: “I’d drop any 10 of you where you stand.” Facebook quickly removed the post for inciting violence, but the point was clear. Louisiana is an open carry state and Higgins is a big proponent of gun rights. Yet he thinks Black people exercising their Second Amendment right in a peaceful protest is a threat to be eliminated.
