Coronavirus death toll linked to wedding in Maine grows to 7 | TheHill

The coronavirus death toll linked to an indoor August wedding in Maine has reached at least seven fatalities, state officials said Tuesday.

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced that the wedding and its reception in Millinocket, Maine are now connected to 176 confirmed cases of COVID-19, agency spokesperson Robert Long said in a statement.

Maine public health officials have traced outbreaks in the state back to the wedding, including at York County Jail and a Madison rehabilitation center, after one staff member from each attended the wedding.

A total of 80 cases have been confirmed at the building that houses the York County Jail. Thirty-nine people tested positive at the Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center in Madison including 24 residents and 15 staff members.

Six of the seven documented deaths connected to the wedding have occurred at the rehabilitation center. None of the seven people who have died attended the wedding or reception, Long said.

Real recognizes real, and greatness knows who it holds company with. It’s no surprise, then, that champion gymnast Simone Biles was among those offering full-throated support to South African track star Caster Semenya, who lost an appeal last week to be able to compete as she was born.

While touting US troops, Trump ad shows Russian-made fighter jets (Trump ad makers as genius as their boss?)

A digital ad released by a fundraising arm of the Trump campaign on Sept. 11 calling on people to “support our troops” uses a stock photo of Russian-made fighter jets and weapons. The ad, which was made by the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, features silhouettes of three soldiers walking as a fighter jet flies over them. The ad first appeared on Sept. 8 and ran until Sept. 12.

Ruslan Pukhov, director of the Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies in Moscow, confirmed to Politico that the planes are MiG-29s — utilized by Russia since the Cold War — and also that one of the soldiers in the Republican ad appears to be carrying an AK-74 assault rifle.

Reneging on an international treaty shows the prime minister cares more about a Eurosceptic fantasy than the Good Friday agreement

There are cases in history of national leaders being coerced into treaties. Yet only Boris Johnson claims to have signed an international agreement by mistake. In the prime minister’s telling, the UK was bamboozled into a substandard Brexit deal last year. Events were moving “at pace”; the politics were “challenging”; European rules were smuggled into the small print. So parliament must pass a law disagreeing with the agreement. To fix the deal, the deal must be broken.

Corporate Farming Is Killing Us Today – LA Progressive

We get richer, we have better health care, and the rate of diabetes in adults has gone from half of one percent to almost 10% . . . that’s not natural, in fact, it is specifically unnatural. It is a direct product of bad food, and way too much of it!

Asia had almost no diabetes and no heart disease until the last 30 years when we exported Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, and McDonalds to Asia. The British tried to kill them with opium, then it looked like we would kill them with Philip Morris tobacco products, but it looks like the real villains are Col. Sanders and Ronald McDonald.
