Songs I Like (63)

Most readers of this blog will know that I am a huge fan of the American band, Steely Dan. If push came to shove, they might be the group whose records I would take to the proverbial desert island.

So here is another one from their back catalogue, released as a single, and also on the album ‘Pretzel Logic’, from 1974.

ब्लॉक-अनब्लॉक/ Block-Unblock – Kaushal Kishore

कितना आसान होता है किसी को

ब्लॉक या अनब्लॉक कर देना…

काश इतना ही आसान होता यादों

और ख्वाबों को भी ऐसा ही कर लेना…

🕳️🕳️🕳️🕳️🕳️🕳️

It’s easy to block someone with a touch,

I wish I could block dreams just as much…

If only memories could be stopped at will,

And unblocked again when I’ve had my fill…

My Teachers – Kaushal Kishore

School days hold a wealth of cherished memories, a time of discovery, growth, and limitless potential. The laughter of friends, the guidance of teachers, and the excitement of learning create an atmosphere that leaves an indelible mark on the heart.

From the nervous anticipation of the first day in the school to the bittersweet nostalgia of college and university, school days are a journey of self-exploration, shaping our minds and spirits in lasting ways.

I vividly recall my teachers, each in their own way striving to mold me into a better version of myself. They laid the foundation for who I am today. Senior teachers carried this journey forward, imparting their wisdom and experience.

They didn’t just teach me chemistry, physics, and biology. They shared the mathematics and languages of life, showing me how difficult it is to be good, yet how the joy it brings is incomparable.

They taught me to notice the flowers blooming in the cradle of green mountains, to understand that tears are not a sign of weakness but a natural expression of emotion. They showed me when to be soft as cotton and when to be strong as iron.

The process of learning is lifelong. It began with my mother, was nurtured by my teachers, and now continues with friends, family, and neighbours, who have taken on the role of teachers in the school of life, where every step brings a new lesson.

Teachers plant seeds of knowledge that grow within us forever, fueling dreams and ambitions. To me, everything in life is a teacher—whether it be the sun, the moon, the stars, plants, trees, the earth, water, or every person came across.

Everyone teaches me, whether I seek them out or draw them to me unconsciously. Often, I learn simply by observing, even if other persons may be completely unaware that I’m learning from them, yet I bow deeply in gratitude.

On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the teachers who, knowingly or unknowingly, played a part in shaping my life and helping me become who I am today.

P.S.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s first Vice-President and second President. A renowned philosopher, teacher, and scholar, Dr. Radhakrishnan was also a prolific writer who fostered intercultural understanding through his lectures in the US and Europe.

When he became President in 1962, some students approached him with a request to celebrate his birthday on September 5. Instead, he suggested that the day be dedicated to teachers. Since then, September 5 has been observed as Teachers’ Day in India.
