Germany: Health officials warn coronavirus could spread ′out of control′ | News | DW | 08.10.2020

Germany’s top disease control official warned that the country could see up to 10,000 new cases per day if people do not follow hygiene and social distancing rules.

“It is possible that the virus will spread out of control,” Lothar Wieler, the head of the Robert Koch Institute, told reporters in Berlin.

“We do not know how the situation in Germany will develop in the coming weeks. It is possible that we will see 10,000 new cases a day,” he said.

His announcement followed a spike in new cases. Germany recorded more than 4,000 coronavirus infections  in a 24-hour period — marking the highest recorded figures since the height of the pandemic in the spring.

Numbers released on Thursday by the Robert Koch Institute showed 4,058 new confirmed infections — a jump of more than 1,200, compared to the 2,828 cases on Wednesday.

Trump Objects to Commission’s Virtual Debate Plan – The New York Times (Poor Baby – convention was virtual – pouting – but, but he wants to infect more people)

President Trump immediately dismissed the idea, declaring that he would not participate and calling the idea of a remote debate “ridiculous.”

The high-stakes standoff between Mr. Trump and the debate organizers emerged on Thursday morning, after the commission, with no warning to campaign representatives, said the Oct. 15 debate would feature candidates debating remotely “in order to protect the health and safety of all involved.”

But Mr. Trump, who tested positive last week for the coronavirus, immediately objected to the concept in a television interview, saying: “I’m not going to waste my time on a virtual debate, that’s not what debating is all about. You sit behind a computer and do a debate — it’s ridiculous.”

I had to rein in my anger at Dump yesterday after the incomparable Beau reminded me of something… — The Chatty Introvert

I had been up since 3am yesterday because after returning to the White House and promptly taking his mask off, I was just livid and it wouldn’t let me sleep. And then the pictures of him going around without a mask, and then making that “don’t worry” video… Yeah, let’s just say my blood was […]

Notre Dame’s President Faces an Angry Campus After Getting the Coronavirus

Students have petitioned for his resignation, angry over what they consider his hypocrisy as well as the rising tide of infections on campus. Others have reported him to a coronavirus hotline for violating his own mask mandate. The student newspaper called the affair “embarrassing” in an editorial. And the faculty senate stopped one vote short on Tuesday night of considering a vote of no confidence in his leadership.

Students and faculty are furious that the Rev. John I. Jenkins failed to wear a mask at a White House ceremony and then later tested positive for the virus.
