New Mexico to renew coronavirus restrictions, warning of more if cases continue to rise | TheHill

New Mexico plans to renew several coronavirus restrictions on Friday, and officials warned of more to come if COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the state.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) announced the new rules, which will include restricting indoor dining and limiting mass gatherings, on Tuesday, saying that the virus is “booming” in the state.

The governor instituted a temporary closing time of 10 p.m. for all food and drink locations that serve alcohol, which she said the state will “rigorously enforce.” The caps for retail and dining establishments as well as hotels will be rolled back.

Coronavirus outbreaks tied to gatherings, workplaces keep L.A. County from reopening – Los Angeles Times

Los Angeles County public health officials said Tuesday that an uptick in coronavirus cases linked to social gatherings and workplace outbreaks is largely keeping the area from moving out of the state’s most restrictive tier for reopening.

While officials remain hopeful the county will be able to progress in California’s reopening plan in the coming weeks, the area is still firmly in Tier 1, or the purple zone — one of only 10 counties in the state still considered to have a widespread risk of community transmission.

De Blasio Ignores His Own Transportation Experts As Cyclist Deaths Rise And Traffic Gridlock Returns – Gothamist

The transportation experts submitted a long list of ideas to the mayor this summer. Among the suggestions: aggressively expand street space for pedestrians and ramp up bike lane installation with the goal of doubling ridership; come up with a plan for restricting vehicular traffic in Manhattan like the city did after 9/11, “should traffic congestion surge”; and come up with a “robust communications plan” to help New Yorkers get out of their cars and find other ways to get around. The de Blasio administration did not respond to the panel. Nor did they respond to an open letter written to the mayor by some of its members on September 1st. According to several members of the panel, they’re not even sure it still exists, since their last meeting was in mid-summer.

COVID Crackdowns At Work Have Saved Black And Latino Lives, LA Officials Say: LAist

Los Angeles County officials attribute a dramatic decline in COVID-19 death and case rates among Blacks and Latinos over the past two months to aggressive workplace health enforcement and the opening of tip lines to report violations.

Now, officials intend to cement those gains by creating workplace councils among employees trained to look for COVID-19 prevention violations and correct or report them — without fear of being fired or punished.

School’s out for quarantine Thousands are falling ill at Russian schools despite strict guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic — Meduza

Usually, Russia’s schools take a week-long holiday in mid-autumn. This year, schools across the country were supposed to go on break as of October 26. But in three regions — Moscow, Sakhalin, and the Ulyanovsk Region — school children have already been sent on a two-week vacation due to outbreaks of the coronavirus. In Moscow and Ulyanovsk, schools have been closed since October 5. In Sakhalin, they’ve been closed since October 12. And whether or not these kids will be headed back to the classroom after the break remains unknown.

“Your Civilisation Is Killing Life on Earth”

My name is Nemonte Nenquimo. I am a Waorani woman, a mother, and a leader of my people. The Amazon rainforest is my home. I am writing you this letter because the fires are raging still. Because the corporations are spilling oil in our rivers. Because the miners are stealing gold (as they have been for 500 years), and leaving behind open pits and toxins. Because the land grabbers are cutting down primary forest so that the cattle can graze, plantations can be grown and the white man can eat. Because our elders are dying from coronavirus, while you are planning your next moves to cut up our lands to stimulate an economy that has never benefited us. Because, as Indigenous peoples, we are fighting to protect what we love — our way of life, our rivers, the animals, our forests, life on Earth — and it’s time that you listened to us. Boris Johnson ignored advice to lock down UK three weeks ago – Business Insider

  • Boris Johnson ignored advice from the team of scientists who advise the government on its coronavirus response, according to newly published papers.
  • The group of scientists, who comprise the SAGE committee, told Boris Johnson to introduce a 14-day ‘circuit-breaker’ lockdown as long as three weeks ago.
  • They also told the PM to introduce further national measures, including a ban on household mixing and the closure of pubs and restaurants.
  • Johnson ignored the advice, and yesterday introduced an alternative three-tier local system where different areas face different restrictions.

21 Signs That You’re an INTP, One of the Rarest Personality Types

INTP is one of the rarest of the 16 Myers-Briggs personality types, making up only 3-5 percent of the U.S. population. As a result, INTPs are often misunderstood and can easily feel alone in the world. But INTPs are brilliant individuals, known for their inventiveness and powerful intellect — and insightful observations. In fact, famous INTPs have been responsible for major innovations throughout history: Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, and Isaac Newton were thought to have been INTPs. Trump Holds Florida Rally Without Mask, Less 2 Weeks of COVID-19 Positive Diagnosis

Yesterday, on Monday (October 12), in Sanford, Florida President Donald Trump tried to bust a move to The Village People’s classic gay anthem “YMCA” during his first campaign rally since his COVID-19 diagnosis. He didn’t stick to the iconic YMCA dance moves or spell out the letters with his arms. Instead, he wobbled about with his fists in the air. The painful to watch dance came at the end of the Florida rally.

The footage isn’t the only disturbing aspect of the rally—Trump tested positive for COVID-19 less than two weeks ago and is seen without a mask. Also maskless was Florida Governor DeSantis who high-fived attendees in the crowd. Very few attendees were seen wearing masks or adhering to social distance protocols.
