Jamaica ranked third regionally in plastic bottle collection, says The Ocean Conservancy’s 2023 Report – Petchary’s Blog

Have you signed up for a coastal cleanup somewhere around the island? As we look forward to International Coastal Cleanup Day (September 21) I am hoping that I can get up an unearthly hour to join the Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) annual flagship cleanup at the Palisadoes Go-Kart Track.

JET has reached capacity in terms of the number of volunteers it needs for that location, but there are many other cleanup sites across Jamaica, including the National Environment and Planning Agency’s (NEPA) activities in two locations in Kingston and St. Catherine (individuals may sign up here)…

Hundreds of thousands march across Israel to demand return of hostages – UPI.com

Massive demonstrations demanding a deal to return the remaining Jewish hostages held by Hamas broke out across Israel late Saturday as protesters flooded into the streets 11 months after the start of the war in Gaza.

One of the largest demonstrations was in Tel Aviv, where videos showed what appeared to be many thousands of protesters choking Begin Road as family members of some of the estimated 101 remaining hostages implored Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to strike a cease-fire deal with Hamas to gain their release.

Medication Bonus Points – CRAIN’S COMMENTS

One relatively new medication is terzepitide, manufactured by Eli Lilly. The drug is sold under two brand names:

  • Mounjaro for the treatment of diabetes, and
  • Zepbound for the treatment of obesity.

The medication is quite effective in both roles. (1,2,3,4)

It’s also a drug that appears to keep on giving. The latest finding is that it can resolve obstructive sleep apnea in perhaps 40%-50% of people with this condition — to the extent that these patients can discontinue use of sleep apnea (CPAP) devices.(5)

The other good news about this drug is that the manufacturer reduced the list price in August from $1,069.08 per month to $399 per month for the 2.5 mg dosage.(6) Still high, but certainly more affordable.

Wagner: Where is the avalanche of coverage of Trump’s cognitive decline?

Alex Wagner shares examples of the disconnected, meandering style of speech that has come to typify Donald Trump’s public addresses and wonders why the media concern for President Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities has not focused with similar energy on Donald Trump’s apparent inability to complete a sentence.
