The origin of the Saxons has been a subject of learned dispute. Ptolemy mentions a tribe called Saxons, living on the north side of the Elbe, but they could not then have been of much importance, for seven other tribes are named by him as occupying the same small peninsula. Tacitus, who wrote before Ptolemy, does not mention them, and it is a fair inference that they were then an obscure and inconsiderable people. It seems most probable that they were a part of that second great wave of population which spread over Europe about six hundred years BC, and which consisted of the Scythian, German, and Gothic tribes. From this great stock sprung the Anglo Saxons, Lowland Scotch, Normans, Danes, Norwegians, Swedes, Dutch, Germans, Belgians, Lombard’s, and Franks of after times.

Pennsylvania reports largest single-day spike in coronavirus cases | TheHill

Health officials in Pennsylvania reported the largest single-day increase in coronavirus cases early Tuesday morning as the key battleground state steps into the national spotlight on Election Day.

The state reported 2,875 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 214,871. An additional 32 new deaths were reported, raising the death toll to 8,855.

Over 61,000 children in the United States contracted COVID-19 last week based on the American Academy of Pediatrics and Children’s Hospital Association’s report. The recorded cases were higher than in any other week during the pandemic, according to NBC News. Overall, it totaled to 853,635 children infected with the coronavirus this year, representing 11.1 percent of all COVID-19 cases in the United States.
