80 percent of those who died of Covid-19 in Texas county jails were never convicted of a crime – Vox

Over 230 people have died from Covid-19 in Texas’s correctional facilities — and in county jails, nearly 80 percent of them were in pretrial detention and hadn’t even been convicted of a crime, according to a new report.

A team of researchers at the University of Austin at Texas reviewed data from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), which has reported that at least 231 people have died of Covid-19 in the state’s correctional facilities between March and October. This report only looked at state-operated prisons and county-operated jails, as researchers were focused on how Texas’s Covid-19 prison policies had fared.

Powerless in the South Caucasus – GERMAN-FOREIGN-POLICY.com – (Trump loser)

Foreign policy experts consider the ceasefire in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to be a success for Russia and a strategic defeat for the West. The mediation of a cease-fire was a “spectacular diplomatic move” by Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the Carnegie Moscow Center. “The West” has “once again yielded the floor to Putin,” criticizes the government-financed Deutsche Welle. In fact, Moscow has once again successfully ended an armed conflict in close cooperation with Ankara – like previously, for example, in Syria. Coronavirus: Health departments to receive $200K each as state reports 7,101 daily cases

“Those tracers would be able to deploy wherever they are needed across the state to assist in identifying individuals who may have been exposed to COVID-19 and prevent further spread,” DeWine said. Ohio reported more than 7,100 daily cases of coronavirus, smashing the previous record of 6,508 set earlier this week.

I’m struggling… – The poor side of life

Dear readers this week’s blog is going to be rather short and I apologize for this. The other week my daughter brought a virus home from school.

This week saw the death total for UK hit 50 thousand. Yes these people died from Covid 19 related illnesses but people still insult the dead and their families by saying that its all a lie. It isn’t a lie, people are dying and they need to take this seriously. I’m sorry for repeating myself again but people do need to hear this. It’s extremely important. As for me, I’ve not been able to go out anywhere except for my local post office which isn’t far. I struggle walking there and back, breathing isn’t easy when your mobile but it is what it is. I wear a mask whenever I do go to the post office and I’m very strict about using anti bacterial hand creams etc. I stay away from any crowds of people because I realize the risk of catching something else. I’m not contagious anymore but so many people are vulnerable and we all need to look after each other. What I do want is a proper lockdown with the full support of the government for workers and self employed people.

NCDHHS: NCDHHS Reports Highest One-Day Increase of COVID-19 Positive Tests; More than 3,000 Cases Reported

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is reporting the state’s highest one day number of COVID-19 cases with 3,119 cases reported. Other key metrics also increased with hospitalizations at 1,246 and the percent of tests that were positive climbing to 7.9 percent.

“This is not the milestone we want to be hitting, particularly as we head into holidays where people want to come together. I am asking North Carolinians to do what they do best, look out for each other. Wear a mask. Wait six feet apart. Wash your hands often. We’ve had more time to learn about this devastating virus and study after study shows that these three simple actions can help keep our family, friends and neighbors from getting sick,” said NCDHHS Secretary Mandy K. Cohen, M.D.
