She acted and co-founded DonatePPE.org along with Bay Area engineer Deyu Kong.

So far, Tsai and a group of about 20 volunteers that includes her brother, Kevin — an anesthesiologist at Cedars-Sinai — have donated some 2.2 million items of PPE to hospitals, schools and homeless shelters across the country as well as internationally to some African nations.

There are nearly 300 active cases of COVID-19 at St. Marys Correctional Center and Jail. West Virginia continues to lead the nation in rate of vaccination, with just over 47 percent of its nearly 61,000 doses administered, Justice said. Maine is the next closest state, with 28 percent.

But the state’s Rt number – which shows the rate at which the virus is spreading in the community – was 1.19, “the second-worst in the entire country,” the governor said.

Here are Minnesota’s current COVID-19 statistics as of Thursday, Dec. 24:

  • 5,050 deaths (79 reported Thursday)
  • 404,403 positive cases (1,917 reported Thursday), with 381,269 off isolation (94 percent)
  • 5.3 million tests, 2.9 million people tested (about 51 percent of the population)
  • 5.3 percent seven-day positive test rate (officials find 5 percent concerning)
