An Important Message About the Recent Surge of COVID-19 | SAG-AFTRA – Entertainment
Most entertainment productions will remain on hiatus until the second or third week of January if not later. This means that the number of our member performers working on sets right now is reduced. Our safety protocols ensure appropriate precautions for the holiday hiatus period including additional time for testing prior to the resumption of production.
To ensure the utmost safety, we are in close contact with our sister unions and guilds, the industry, our expert epidemiologists, industrial sanitation specialists, public health officials, member leaders and staff. We remain focused on ensuring the safest possible work environment and protocols for SAG-AFTRA members.

County Reports 2,448 New COVID-19 Infections, New Variant Infection Found | KPBS
San Diego County public health officials reported 37 COVID-19-related deaths and 2,448 infections Wednesday, including one individual infected with a new, more contagious variant of the virus first discovered in the United Kingdom.
The variant, known as B.1.1.7, was first found in the United States Tuesday in Colorado. The San Diego case is in a man in his 30s with no history of travel who first became symptomatic Dec. 27 and tested positive Dec. 29. He has not been hospitalized and contact tracing is underway.
“Because there is no travel history, we believe this is not an isolated case in San Diego County,” County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said.

‘Massive’ COVID-19 transmission among 20-40 year olds has Austin health leaders worried | KXAN Austin
“It’s particularly important for those [20-29 and 30-39 age] groups to understand: you can be hospitalized even though you’re young, you can end up in critical care even though you’re young, you can die even though you’re young.”
-INTERIM HEALTH AUTHORITY DR. MARK ESCOTT ON DEC. 29
Escott said young people also play a role in how the virus is spreading to groups more at risk for severe symptoms. For example, he explained in the 80+ age group, COVID-19 hospitalization rates “continue to creep up,” which is concerning because that group is the most likely to need critical care and most likely to die of COVID-19.
Speaking of Austin-area residents in the 20-39 age group, Escott added, “we need to impact the transmission in those age groups in order to prevent better the transmission in the upper age groups, which tends to follow behind the transmissions in the younger age groups.”

The Black scientist who helped develop Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine just got her first shot
“So, the first thing you might want to say to my African American brothers and sisters is that the vaccine that you’re going to be taking was developed by an African American woman. And that is just a fact,” Fauci said.
US Surgeon General Jerome Adams thanked Corbett in a tweet showing the public his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
“Thank you to @KizzyPhD and all the scientists, reviewers, and study participants – especially those from minority and/ or vulnerable communities- who made this moment possible,” Adams said.

The death of democracy
This text is just the introduction of a topic, which really interests me and it’s a sociolinguistic topic. It refers on the relativity of words, because of their position inside the different cultures or social groups. Thus, it’s also taking a look at the definition of “interpretation”, which connects directly with the topic.
I love words. I love every single word. I even more fancy, trying to (re-) construct the central, real and essential meaning of every word (“[Haupt-] Kern” in German). Almost sterilize them, leaving them naked. My “word(s) reconstruction” causes an almost suspicious neutrality. Α color blindness. For others. Not for me.
However, there are words that are not simply words; these words encapsulate other words. Terms, ideas; they need a whole group of smaller words, in order to come to the fore and deliver their deepest meanings succesfully.
The constantly alternating idea of democracy portrays how people…
