Hamilton County turns ‘purple’ on Ohio’s COVID-19 heat map

Hamilton was the only county to turn “purple,” indicating “severe exposure and spread. “There are no state mandates or restrictions tied to the alert levels. The designation could inform changes at the local level. Some school districts have tied in-person classes to certain color designations.

Hamilton County went from averaging 670 new cases per day on Dec. 25 to 773 new cases per day one week later, according to Ohio Department of Health data. Emergency room visits for COVID-19 symptoms, another indicator, appeared to be on the decline last week but have continued to increase.

Virginia police officer arrested after Capitol riots is National Guardsman | TheHill

One of the two Virginia police officers arrested Wednesday in connection with last week’s deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol is a current member of the Virginia National Guard, officials confirmed Thursday.

Jacob Fracker, who was charged with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, is a corporal in the Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Guard said Thursday.

“The Virginia National Guard will conduct an investigation into the matter, and we will be able to release more information when that is complete,” the Guard said in a statement.

Fracker, who’s status as a guardsman was first reported by Military.com, is the first known person currently in the military to be arrested in connection with the Capitol assault.

Fracker is an infantryman in a traditional National Guard status who normally drills one weekend a month and does two weeks of annual training, the Virginia Guard said.

DOJ: Man accused of storming U.S. Capitol in Jan. 6 riot arrested in Glendora

A man accused of violently storming the U.S. Capitol Building with other rioters last week was arrested in Glendora late Wednesday night, according to a Department of Justice bulletin.

Hunter Allen Ehmke, 20, faces charges of destroying government property, violent and disorderly conduct and obstructing an official proceeding, federal prosecutors said.

FBI agents arrested Ehmke at his Glendora home just past 8 p.m., an FBI official said. The agents then turned him over to local police to hold overnight in their jail, according to Glendora police.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s booking records showed Ehmke was being held without bail.

Records show Ehmke was transferred to another agency’s custody at around 7:44 a.m. on Thursday. The agency was not listed, but he was likely transferred to federal custody because of the nature of the charges against him.

Department of Justice officials said Ehmke was expected to appear in federal court in downtown Los Angeles later this afternoon.
