Okay, I can already feel the distaste from readers reading just the title; but give me a minute to convince you otherwise with a simple anecdote from three days ago, which was also Bhutan’s 113th National Day. “If you carry this pothi (a set of Tibetan buddhist scriptures) and circumambulate three times around the center altar, you will erase your negative karma” my aunt, who had taken me to the monastery told me. Under the tri-divine gaze of Sangay Methrub, Chenrigzig and Buddha; the multi-mundane gaze of my extended family members and the singularly-internalized gaze of my masculinity, I lifted the pothi, put it straight on my shoulder and began the easy work of erasing my sins in three easy rounds. However, as I was walking … ahem! … walk-sprinting to make the rounds, I couldn’t help but wonder if the fact that we had driven all the…

Unlocking The Hidden Me

#poetry

Sea of memories conjures up my mind

a little stimulus creates a ripple

And a wave of emotions drench my soul

While I sit here rocking my chair and rewind the life’s stroll

How vibrant were my salad days

What a sunshine smile my face wore

To live in cloud cuckoo land was just so fun

How one by one things fades in the long run

Springtime of life with little flowers in my garden

How beautifully they turned into big trees

Where to look for umbrage I wonder

The sun shines brighter each day and I find the shade just always yonder

Loneliness is always so unforeknown

My garden awaits those tiny parakeets

Oh how they fluttered around all over

Oh how I kept them safe and maneuver

They laugh and become angry at me like I used to, at them

Oh how well have I trained…

Mahatma Gandhi’s killer venerated as Hindu nationalism resurges in India | India | The Guardian – (Deeply troubling – the future of Indian democracy is threatened by veneration of Gandhi’s murderer)

“This reverence of Godse and the glorification of violence is all tied to the ascendancy of the BJP,” said Audrey Truschke, assistant professor of South Asian history at Rutgers University in New Jersey. “It began emerging in the last decade and has been accelerating to the point where a greater percentage of people in India are now willing to accept this; and it is shaping, and reshaping, people’s views of Mahatma Gandhi in decidedly unhelpful ways.” Source: Mahatma Gandhi’s killer venerated as Hindu nationalism resurges in India | India | The Guardian

Sasse, in fiery op-ed, says QAnon is destroying GOP | TheHill

“Until last week, many party leaders and consultants thought they could preach the Constitution while winking at QAnon. They can’t,” Sasse wrote. “The GOP must reject conspiracy theories or be consumed by them. Now is the time to decide what this party is about.”

Sasse also criticized House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for not disavowing Taylor Greene’s campaign and called the freshman lawmaker “cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.”

“During her campaign, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy had a choice: disavow her campaign and potentially lose a Republican seat, or welcome her into his caucus and try to keep a lid on her ludicrous ideas. McCarthy failed the leadership test and sat on the sidelines,” Sasse opined.

Taylor Greene stated this month that she plans to bring articles of impeachment against Biden the day after his inauguration.

Sasse acknowledged her plan, hitting the Georgia Republican: “She’ll keep making fools out of herself, her constituents, and the Republican Party,” he said.

The Nebraska lawmaker concluded, stating that in order to play a “constructive part” in America’s future, the GOP must “repudiate the nonsense that has set our party on fire,” and “rebuild itself” by offering a “genuine answer to the frustrations of the past decade.”
