Doctors Fear Fourth Surge of Coronavirus Cases

“We’re seeing the increase in transmission in young kids, primarily in the upper Midwest, in the Northeast right now. But that’s just a matter of time before we see it go throughout the entire United States,” Dr. Michael Osterholm, the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, told CBS News “Unfortunately, we are going to see a rise in pediatric hospitalizations and serious illness.” The surge comes as multiple states (my home state of Arizona included) have rolled back mask mandates and capacity restrictions for businesses. Doctors are encouraging people to stay vigilant; wearing your mask in public places and getting the vaccine as soon as you are able to. “We are almost at the finish line, but we’re not there,” Osterholm told CBS News.

Wondering Wednesdays, Baby Acres, and Governance Concerns

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This post continues to expand on my current non-fiction WiP, Baby Acres: A possible Vision for Making Society Suck Less, in 60 Years.   (Thanks, again, to JYP and Tammy for the title ideas!!)  The overall goal still being to lay out a roadmap for a fully inclusive society for all of us, I am turning, this week, to Phase III.  Just a short overview, mind you, to explain what my thoughts are as I start to work on fleshing the whole idea out for the book.  I realized that any society that could  pass the Rawlsian Veil of Ignorance Test would still be connected to societies that might not pass that test, which would be a problem for that just, or even merely less unsafe, society.  A serious problem.

That meant that All HumanKind  would have to be included in both Phases III and IV, since otherwise, large…

” O Brasil ocupa o 5° no Ranking Mundial do FEMINICÍDIO “.

Fonte: OMS

Chilean TV Reporter and Cameraman Shot and Wounded – Havana Times

Chilean authorities must conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting of Chilean National Television (TVN) staffers Iván Núñez and Esteban Sánchez, and bring those responsible to justice, the Committee to Protect Journalists said today. On March 27 at about 9 p.m., unidentified attackers shot at Núñez, a reporter, and Sánchez, a camera operator with the state media outlet, injuring Núñez in his forearm and Sánchez in the eye and chest, according to news reports. The attack occurred as the journalists were driving in an unmarked car in the Lleu Lleu area of Chile’s central Bío Bío region, according to those reports and Danilo Ahumada, president of the Chilean Journalists Union, who spoke with CPJ via messaging app Sánchez lost an eye and remains hospitalized, but his injuries are not life-threatening, according to news reports and Ahumada. Núñez received a minor injury to his forearm, according to those reports. At the order of the federal prosecutor’s office, the Special Police Investigations Brigade of the Chilean Investigative Police is investigating the attack, according to news reports. “Chilean authorities must continue their investigation into the shooting of TVN staffers Iván Núñez and Esteban Sánchez, and ensure the perpetrators face justice,” said CPJ Central and South America Program Coordinator Natalie Southwick, in New York. “In a case as dangerous as this one, it is essential for authorities to send an unequivocal message that it is unacceptable to target the press.”

In the Philippines, Brave Health Workers Won’t Let COVID-19 Stop Them | UNICEF USA

On March 4, more than 480,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses arrived in the Philippines via the COVAX Facility. Hardworking health workers and people with underlying health conditions were among the first to be vaccinated. For ICU nurse Kareen Mae Abalahin, that meant a chance to see her husband and son again, after almost four long months apart.

“I have this hope that I will go home soon,” she said. “I can hug them, I can kiss them.”
“Knowing that I’ve been vaccinated, I know that I have an added layer of protection. Vaccines have been studied well and have been proven throughout the years, with the eradication of some of the virusus like smallpox. Because of this vaccine, we are protected and we are protecting [our patients] also.”
