Montana governor signs bill banning sanctuary cities | TheHill (Me: GOP grabs all power from local government for elitist government)-

The Montana law will require cities to cooperate with federal agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection, and gives the state’s attorney general, also a Republican, the power to pursue civil action against jurisdictions that refuse.

The state could now legally withhold grants and other funding to cities and towns that do not comply with the state government’s new mandate, the newspaper reported.

Japan designates Osaka, Hyogo, Miyagi for tougher COVID-19 steps

The Japanese government on Thursday designated Osaka, Hyogo and Miyagi prefectures for stronger measures against COVID-19 amid a sharp resurgence in infections.

The steps, including fines for eateries that ignore mandates to shorten operating hours, will be effective from April 5 for one month.

“These measures are necessary to stop the coronavirus from spreading and prevent the need for another state of emergency,” Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga told reporters.

The designation comes as Osaka reported 616 new infections on Thursday, the most in more than two months and exceeding Tokyo’s 475 cases, and with less than four months until the capital hosts the Summer Olympics.

Myanmar opposition declares Constitution “dead,” announces new one

Anti-coup protesters returned to the streets across Myanmar on Thursday, with some burning copies of the 2008 Constitution that guarantees the military’s role in politics, a day after pro-democracy forces announced a provisional charter in its place.

The opposition group called the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, or CRPH, which consists mostly of members of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy and fashions itself as a provisional government, also announced the rescinding of the 2008 Constitution.

Border Déjà Vu: Biden Confronts Similar Challenges as His Predecessors | migrationpolicy.org

The arrival of vulnerable populations, especially children and families from Central America, has been a daunting challenge for close to a decade, with pronounced peaks in 2014 and 2019. But the last three months have seen the fastest rate of increase in arrivals of unaccompanied children on record, with nearly 5,700 arriving in January, just under 9,300 in February, and possibly more than 17,000 in March. This pace of arrivals has created the perception of both an out-of-control border and a heart-wrenching humanitarian emergency.

Thoughtful Thursdays, Stayed on Freedom with the Call of Freedom, and Public Transportation

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

I believe that Marvin Caplan’s Neighbor’s, Inc. provided part of an answer, a few years ago, which continues with page seven of my book Stayed on Freedom’s Call, and the Preface for the book:

…   diverse heritages in that tense decade after desegregation. At about the same
time, in the same city yet another world away, Dr.s Jean and Edgar Cahn were
pioneering Black-Jewish cooperation, on the social and legal fronts. Both DC
families, old and new, drew on the faith which had kept them going, and used
that faith to inspire hope…

Myanmar’s military rulers have ordered internet service providers to shut down wireless broadband services until further notice, several telecoms sources said on Thursday.

The instruction to halt wireless broadband services was relayed to employees of one provider in an email seen by Reuters, which did not state a reason for the order. It also said the current mobile internet shutdown would continue and by law it had to comply with the directive.
