Albreht Direr,moć ruke i uma – Albrecht Dürer, the power of hand and mind — Myrela

One Texas parent finds herself in the middle of a fight over masks | The Texas Tribune (Me: fighting stupid public decisions in Texas)

Lead image for this article Olivia Weisinger, never a particularly political person, found herself outside the Comal Independent School District board meeting in New Braunfels late last month, rallying parents, students and teachers to voice their anger over the school board’s decision to eliminate the district’s mask mandate. “I’ve never done any of this,” Weisinger said in a quiet voice with a tired edge. Before the pandemic, her eldest was happily enrolled in a Comal ISD elementary school, with three younger siblings in line behind him. Now, after a long year at odds with the district over its handling of COVID-19 policies for its 25,000 students, she’s home-schooling her son while filing grievances with the Texas Education Agency, organizing protests and making videos challenging board members’ statements.

In Saner Thought

These days a common theme in most political talks shows is the use of the term “Jim Crow”.

About time for some clarity.

“Jim Crow” has long been a derogatory slang term for a black man, making it a fitting name for the laws that were in force in the South and some border states from 1877 through the mid-1960s. These laws were in place to maintain racial segregation after the Civil War ended. Initially, Jim Crow laws required the separation…
