Alphabet soup for the soul – “G’

Words from Walden

G is for Gratitude

“The miracle of gratitude is that it shifts your perception to such an extent that it changes the world you see”

-Dr Robert Holden-

If the first thing you say every morning when you open your eyes is “thank you, I am grateful to be alive” then you’re proactively starting your day in a positive state of mind. Conversely, if you check your phone to find out what you missed, then you are starting from a reactive state of mind.

The Wise sage said: ‘As you begin your day so too, the rest of your day will unfold’.

By waking up in gratitude daily, eventually, with practice over time, you will find many things to be grateful for.

The truth is we should all be grateful for everything in our lives, the good and the bad. There are times when stormy weather may cloud our judgement…

Why is lockdown so boring?

Beyond The Lines

Lockdown usually means that people must stay where they are and may not enter or exit a building or rooms within it. All non-essential activities remain shut for the entire period. Only essential activities are allowed to run and only essential commodities can be bought.

Eight reasons why lockdown is so boring :-

• Humans are free souls. If you try to capture them then they will break your shackles and run away!

• In lockdown the bustling streets and roads seem like a ghost town.

• Prolonged lockdown may lead to dissent among family members if you are not living alone.

• You can’t go, buy and order from your favourite place or shop.

• You gain weight. If you are w.f.h. or studying online. You may want to eat more since you are staying at home.

• You start to miss your place of work/study and the atmosphere…

New Travel Restrictions Might be Coming to B.C. – The BC Area

Cruise ships have been prohibited until next year and those coming into Canada are being required to quarantine in hotels for a certain amount of time too, causing a great deal of frustration with some travelers.

The border with the U.S. and Canada has been closed for more than a year now.

There isn’t any clear sign of when that might reopen and now there could be more restrictions set by summer in B.C. Other regions of Canada are already facing harsher lock down rules than B.C. is for now, but that might change with B.C. implementing more.

Recently, officials did announce changes to indoor dining and other activities and if cases continue rising and there is that concern then we can expect more announcements for daily life restrictions in the weeks and months to come.

Covid-19 should not stop us from dealing with another key issue: Climate change – Towards A Better Life

Blogger's World!

Covid-19 started in 2020 and does not seem to end soon. The problems it has created also seem to have taken away our attention from climate change, which is another major issue that is affecting our heath.

However, that should not happen because even after we have found a solid solution for the pandemic, climate change will remain.

What can you do?

Most of us are not scientists to deal with climate change, but you can still do something at your level to control it. I believe that doing at least the following two things can help.

1) Shut down that AC: That is what I tell my son who loves switching the air-conditioner on whenever he feels hot. Honestly, I just do it to cut down my power bills. But, I also think that it is not only my child but also other people who put on the AC…

Caramelized Onions — In Dianes Kitchen

Caramelization is the browning of the natural sugar in the onions which results in a sweet nutty flavor and brown color. I ate this entire bowl of onions as my supper. 25 April ANZAC Women

Thanks for their leadership and compassion…

Pacific Paratrooper

ANZAC Women

With today’s pandemic situation, we are seeing many similarities to WWI (ending in 1919), the 1920 pandemic, the Great Depression and WWII predicaments that also affected the entire planet.

We are additionally discovering that along with our militarys, there are many others that deserve our thanks and appreciation.  So __ with that in mind, I chose, along with Garrulous Gwendoline’s encouragement, to salute the nurses that risked their lives working beside the ANZAC troops that are to be honored this 25 April.

Miss Phyllis M. Boissier

(pictured bottom right in the above image)

Elected Matron of Manly Cottage Hospital in 1912, Boissier then joined the World War I effort. She signed up with the Australian Army Nursing Service and traveled to Egypt in 1914. She was awarded the Royal Red Cross for her war service at Gezirah, where she tended to the wounded soldiers from Gallipoli. She became…
