Military’s Latest Coup Pushes Myanmar Into Revolt

After three months of unyielding opposition to the military’s Feb. 1 coup, Myanmar is now a country in revolt.

The country, which has experienced more than its share of uprisings and revolutions—including the “’88 Pro-Democracy Uprising” in 1988 and the “Saffron Revolution” led by Buddhist monks in 2007, not to mention its century-long independence struggle ending in 1948—is now witnessing a “Spring Revolution”. These uprisings have occurred periodically in reaction to oppressive military dictatorships and the military-created authoritarianism that has taken root in the country over the past 60 years.

The “Spring Revolution” wouldn’t have happened had coup leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing not decided to seize power with his bogus accusation of “electoral fraud” in the 2020 election, which the democratically elected National League for Democracy won in a landslide victory.

NC Republican Tim Moore Kills Bill Banning Trans Girls from Girls’ Sports

Unlike the several Republican-led states who have passed bills targeting and banning trans girls from girls’ sports this year, North Carolina has decided not to move ahead on its similar bill. The stated reason? It’s not an actual problem that legislators need to address, and a total waste of time. Congratulations to North Carolina’s Republicans on acknowledging reality, for once!

In announcing that the bill was dead, the state’s Republican House Speaker Tim Moore admitted that it was being killed because it was an absolutely unnecessary piece of legislation. Via the News & Observer, emphasis my own:

Moore said what actually took place behind the scenes is that legislative staffers reached out to sports regulatory organizations to find out how large of a problem North Carolinians had with having transgender females playing on female sports teams.

Moore said they found no complaints.

VEM comigo!

Today what matters is how much this couple can add, ‘evolve together’ and add life to two.

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Good on you for staying with your writing. I have been writing and sharing forever it seems. My first newsletter did not have any words since at age 3, I had not learned how to write yet but want to make a newspaper to please my father. My mother was pleased and showed me a dictionary and said: This is where the words are. I used it to teach myself how to read took two years but kept at it.

Blog yazmak 🎊 Thanks to Jovan from pexels ⚘

Blog yazmak 💫 Thanks to Cristian from pexels ⚘

2020 Haziran ayının başında  WordPress’i keşfetmemle, yazılarımı  buraya taşımaya…

‘To hell with all of you’ Saratov pensioner runs into Russia’s State Duma speaker and gives him a piece of her mind — Meduza

The elderly woman introduced herself as Anna Alexandrovna. She said she was born in a village in the Tambov region and that she was 10 years old when the Great Patriotic War (World War II) began. After telling Volodin about how hard things were during the war, Anna Alexandrovna began talking about the problems of the present day. “Why are the people still living so badly?” she asked the State Duma speaker.

Anna Alexandrovna expressed outrage over the case of Penza Governor Ivan Belozertsev, who was arrested on suspicion of bribery back in March. (During a search of the governor’s cottage, the authorities confiscated 500 million rubles in cash — the equivalent of about $6.65 million). By comparison, Alexandrovna said that she doesn’t receive any government benefits, in spite of the work she did as a teenager during the Second World War: “How is that? Are the [people] around there deaf and dumb? How many lies? Who are you kidding? I’m 90 years old and I have no benefits. What title was [Saratov] awarded? City of Labor Valour. But who did the work? Women and adolescents. These women are gone, but [one of those] adolescents is standing in front of you. You don’t pay me three cents, but they steal billions.”

“Look, please, turn down the lies. And tell everyone: people see everything. […] For me, for me personally, it’s a disgrace when the president gives 10,000 rubles [$130] for getting a child to school,” Alexandrovna continued, referring to the benefits President Vladimir Putin recently promised for Russian families with school-age children.

The Generosity of Plants — Micro of the Macro

This week, I’ve begun reading The Well-Gardened Mind: The Restorative Power of Nature by Sue Stuart-Smith.  The book presents various research findings on working with Nature and draws beautiful parallels between gardening and developing a healthy mindset.  Stuart-Smith is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, and her book was chosen by The Times, Britain’s oldest national daily […]

Costa Rica on High Alert for COVID-19, What’s Happening? – Havana Times (Me: everyplace that opened up too soon for economic and political/social reasons has paid in un-necessary deaths.)

Costa Rican virologist Eugenia Corrales agrees with Romero on the point that the third wave is the result of a false sense of security and the population being too free. It occurred after the country’s economic reopening and a low number of cases in the first three months of this year.

“High-risk spaces for infection were opened, lots of people went back to work, churches opened up, as did schools, gyms, but what really pushed us to the brink were the Easter holidays, when lots of people moved about, there was a lot of social contact, crowds,” Corrales said.

Before the Easter holidays, the Government invited the population to go on holiday so that national tourism would give a boost to the tourism industry; but always respecting recommendations such as not breaking “social bubbles”, wearing a mask, washing hands and avoiding large gatherings. It seems that the second part of the message didn’t sink in.

“New strains (of the virus) may be playing some role in the spike in infections, but I believe it was mainly people being over-exposed. People really let loose and the virus overdeveloped,” Romero added.
