WHO names B1617 fourth COVID-19 variant of concern | CIDRAP (India)

Over the weekend, India’s cases remained near record levels, with the country reporting more than 400,000 cases on May 8 and about 366,000 cases yesterday.

In other Indian developments, the country is asking former army medics to help care for patients at overwhelmed hospitals and military doctors to do online consultations, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, doctors in India are reporting an increase in potentially fatal fungal lung infections called mucormycosis in people with COVID or in those who recently recovered, according to the New York Times. Some experts said the cases could be linked to increased use of steroids or from treatment at home, including oxygen, without proper hygiene.

Arizona Election Recount Embarrassing Even Republicans

a top official in the Department of Justice warned that ballots “are at risk of being lost, stolen, altered, compromised or destroyed” and that the recount may violate federal law. Arizona’s Secretary of State, Katie Hobbs, was the first to raise the alarm that, as she put it, Cyber Ninjas’s review represented “a significant departure from standard best practices.” According to the Times, her remarks resulted in Trump supporters sending her death threats, and Hobbs had to be given protection from the state police.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Republican state senator Paul Boyer expressed a little bit of buyer’s remorse. “It makes us look like idiots,” Boyer told the Times. He added, “Looking back, I didn’t think it would be this ridiculous. It’s embarrassing to be a state senator at this point.”

Recipe : Banana Wheat Bites

yummy – got to try soon

Inhale Peace; Exhale Love. Joy will Follow! - RUELHA

Bananas are easily available everywhere here. It’s the cheapest of all the fruits for just 3 bucks a piece, loaded with potassium, minerals, vitamins and fiber. But unfortunately, they ripen so quickly and cannot be stored too long. Sometimes, we’re left with overripe bananas that are unsightly with those blackened spots and mushy texture. But honestly speaking, they’re a lot more healthier that way. I cannot discard food; I cannot waste food. I have too much respect for it. Usually, I just make a banana cake or banana fritters. But look at what my mum came up with….

Ingredients:

  • 2 overripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 100ml milk
  • 1 tsp. Cream
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp. Jaggery or 4 tbsp. Sugar
  • 2-3 pinches of baking soda

Method:

Grind the bananas with sugar and salt. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Adjust the consistency by…

Germany to approve Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine for adults of all ages | Coronavirus | The Guardian

Germany is making the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus jab available to all adults irrespective of age or pre-existing health conditions, as the country switches to a twin-track strategy to counteract hesitancy around viral vector-based vaccines among older people.

The German health minister, Jens Spahn, announced on Monday that anyone who wished would be able to receive the one-shot J&J vaccine, as long as they had been made aware of the extremely low risk of a rare blood-clotting condition linked to the jab in the US.

Top female GOP senator compares Cheney ousting to ‘cancel culture’ | TheHill

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), the only woman in Senate Republicans’ elected leadership team, compared efforts to oust Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from leadership to “cancel culture,” and argued that the party should be focused on unifying heading into 2022.

“I feel it’s OK to go ahead and express what you feel is right to express and, you know, cancel culture is cancel culture no matter how you look at it. Unfortunately, I think there are those that are trying to silence others in the party,” Ernst told reporters on Monday asked about Cheney’s likely ouster.

Researchers Say They’ve Uncovered a Massive Facebook Bot Farm From the 2020 Election – Mother Jones (Me: what did Facebook know and not care vs when they know and did something?Facebook not talking)

According to Paul Bischoff of Comparitech, a British cybersecurity company, the network includes 13,775 unique Facebook accounts that each posted roughly 15 times per month, for an output of more than 50,000 posts a week. The accounts appear to have been used for “political manipulation,” Bischoff says, with roughly half the posts being related to political topics and another 17 percent related to COVID-19. Each account has a profile photo and friends list—likely consisting of other bots, the researchers suggest—and they’ve joined “specific Facebook groups where their posts are more likely to be seen and discussed by legitimate users.”

A Facebook representative said the company would look into a sample of the accounts identified by Comparitechbut declined further comment.
