There’s More Than One Way to Shoot in a War — Pacific Paratrooper

The camera-toting soldier Shooting with cameras rather than guns. Signal Corps photographers were the “eyes” of the military. Whether taking motion pictures or still photographs, often in the thick of the action, military photographers captured and produced scores of images for the purpose of strategy and intelligence, map-making and simply to document historic moments. Photographers […]

WATCH LIVE: DeWine: It is time to end the health orders
“Ohio’s cases per 100,000 are the lowest compared to all its neighboring states,” DeWine said of recent stats reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (Me: a meaningless comparison. If people slack off and don’t get vaccinated… and infection and deaths ramp up… it will be our fault but what would DeWine do then? Is he going to be sure that all Ohio state employees are vaccinated?)

Senate Democrats skeptical of extending $300 unemployment benefit – By NICHOLAS WU and MARIANNE LEVINE 05/11/2021 09:53 PM EDT | Just Sayin’ (me: Don’t punk for elitist GOPers)
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), the chair of the Senate Finance Committee, said there had been “report after report indicating” it was “not accurate” that the benefits discouraged work. He cited the need for childcare and the reduction of public transit service in many cities as several of the factors affecting the labor market. Reducing benefits in the way Republican governors had done would leave many people with effectively no income, he said.
Several economists also highlight a Yale study from last year that found “no evidence” that the initial $600 boost in federal unemployment benefits from last year’s CARES Act increased layoffs or discouraged workers from returning to their jobs over time.
💥 Saturday And Wednesday Collided 💥
I have to confess, last night I completely lost track of the day of the week, and thus did not realize that today would be Wednesday, hence I did not prepare a ‘good people’ post! Now, another feature such as ‘Jolly Monday’ or ‘Saturday Surprise’, I would just move on, not worry about it, and try to do better next week, but I know how you all count on Good People on Wednesday. As it is late at night and I am not quite up to par tonight, I dug back through the archives and found this post that was actually posted on a Saturday back in 2018, but I always thought it qualified as a ‘good people’ post, too. And so, without further ado …
Is it Saturday? Or is it Wednesday? There seems to have been a collision on this blog of Saturday and Wednesday … what shall…

Vulingjuen, Kina -Wulingyuan, China
Tianqiashengkong means “heavenly bridge”. This name was given by the inhabitants of the village of Zhangjiajie (Zhangjendje) to what is considered to be the largest natural bridge in the world.
Tianqiashengkong (Tjenćašengkung) znači “nebeski most”. Njegova dužina iznosi 40 metara, širina 10, a debljina 15.

UPDATE: 56 Palestinians, 6 Israelis Killed as Tensions Escalate | Egyptian Streets
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made a statement on Tuesday in a meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers in response to the escalating situation.
“Egypt will not stand idle towards what is going on in the holy city,” he stated. “It provokes our feelings to see this holy spot turned into a war zone at the hands of the Israeli forces, where the unarmed worshipers were insulted and subjected to beating and arrest instead of being protected to worship freely and safely.”
