Recipe : Spicy Soya Bites
Inhale Peace; Exhale Love. Joy will Follow! - RUELHA
I’ve been experimenting with soya off late. And I treat it like meat, well …almost! But, meat is succulent and oozes with flavour from within. Soya tends to be a tad mealy and chalky if not pressurized into attaining some flavour. So, I subject these little nuggets to all kinds of torture in an attempt to get them to soak up flavours. This is the third time I’m cooking soya, and I am pleasantly surprised. Some days, I just want to look at the mirror and pat my back. Yeah, so gooooood! Well, it does take some effort, time and patience. So gear up, mehnat waali dish hain!
Ingredients:
- 200 gms soya chunks
- water
- salt
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp meeth mirsang {red chili & vinegar paste}
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 3/4 tsp amchur powder
- few drops of vinegar
- 2 tsp soya…

Recipe : Baingan Ka Bharta
Love egg plant dishes! Yum!
Inhale Peace; Exhale Love. Joy will Follow! - RUELHA
This is one of those dishes that requires a lot of time and patience. Mehnatwaali dish hain! There are a few steps that take a long time. But, you just cannot rush a bharta. It will turn out horribly wrong. This is the second time I am making an aubergine bharta and the first time was just so wrong and my efforts were all in vain because I was too scared to smoke the vegetables completely. This time around, I prepared this dish lovingly, and I myself was so elated with the results. You want the recipe, eh? Sure, I’ll share!

Vaccine Monitor: Unvaccinated Hispanic Adults are Twice as Likely as White Adults to Want a COVID-19 Vaccine ASAP, Highlighting a Key Outreach Opportunity for Vaccination Efforts | KFF
A third (33%) of unvaccinated Hispanic adults say they want to get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible – twice the share as among unvaccinated White (16%) or Black (17%) adults, presenting an opportunity for targeted outreach to boost overall vaccination rates, according to a new KFF COVID-19 Vaccine Monitor report focused on the vaccine views and experiences of Hispanic adults.
The higher share of Hispanic adults who want to get vaccinated quickly but have not yet reflects some significant access barriers and information gaps identified by the Monitor, including concerns about potential costs, lost wages, and immigration-related issues.
“With so many unvaccinated Hispanic adults eager to get a shot, there’s an opportunity to further close the gap in vaccination rates by addressing worries about costs and practical concerns such as time off work,” said Liz Hamel, a KFF vice president and director of KFF’s public opinion and survey research.
Vaccinated Americans Now May Go Without Masks in Most Places, the C.D.C. said – The New York Times
The new advice comes with caveats. Even vaccinated individuals must cover their faces and physically distance when going to doctors, hospitals or long-term care facilities like nursing homes; when traveling by bus, plane, train or other modes of public transportation, or while in transportation hubs like airports and bus stations; and when in prisons, jails or homeless shelters.
In deference to local authorities, the C.D.C. said vaccinated Americans must continue to abide by existing state, local, or tribal laws and regulations, and follow local rules for businesses and workplaces. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the one-dose Johnson & Johnson shot or the second dose of either Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine series.

Brazilian police target indigenous leaders after government criticism | Brazil | The Guardian
Human rights activists in Brazil have warned that the country’s authorities are targeting indigenous leaders after police launched investigations into two prominent critics of the government of Jair Bolsonaro. Sônia Guajajara, the head of Brazil’s largest indigenous organization, the Association of Indigenous Peoples (Apib), and Almir Suruí had been put under investigation last month over social media campaigns raising awareness of the threat that Covid-19 poses to Brazil’s indigenous population. Both cases were closed this week after federal judges ruled that there were no grounds for the investigations and described the situation as an “illegal embarrassment”. But Natalie Unterstell, the founder of the Política por Inteiro thinktank, said the episode exposed how the government is fostering violence against indigenous populations. “Speeches by the president and his ministers are constantly attacking indigenous peoples,” Unterstell said. “This sets an environment of violence. We need antidotes against it.”

‘Micro farms’ come to South L.A. with fresh food, produce – Los Angeles Times
Jamiah Hargins knows the modest frontyard at the corner of Angeles Vista Boulevard and Olympiad Drive like the back of his hand. A military brat who grew up moving from one country to another, he has traversed the yard’s 970 square feet countless times. He and a small team of volunteers spent a month cultivating the land, installing equipment and planting sloping rows of vegetables, including bok choy, Tuscan kale, rainbow chard, red cherry tomatoes, basil and chives. It’s enough to cause people in this View Park neighborhood, including their regular mailman, to gawk at the lush green grass transformed into a minifarm. “For a while, we thought it was just the typical landscaping job in View Park. And we were curious when we saw just how much work was going into it,” said Ibiere Seck, 40, who lives in the neighborhood and watched the farm come to life during walks with her children. “Every day we would just pass and see it evolve. … There are many beautiful things to see in this neighborhood. But by far, this is the most fascinating and inspirational.”
