Cheney: ‘It is disgusting and despicable’ to see Gosar ‘lie’ about Jan. 6 | TheHill

On January 6, as the violent mob advanced on the House chamber, I was standing near @RepGosar and helped him open his gas mask,” Cheney said in a tweet on Tuesday. “The Capitol Police led us to safety. It is disgusting and despicable to see Gosar lie about that day and smear the men and women who defended us.”

Gosar, during a House hearing earlier in the day, said Capitol Police were “lying in wait” for Ashli Babbitt, who was shot and killed during the breach at the Capitol that day. Gosar reportedly described Babbitt as being “executed” by Capitol Police.

Garland strikes down Trump-era asylum decisions | TheHill

Orders he signed Wednesday vacate earlier decisions from former attorneys general Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr that limited asylum for victims of domestic violence as well as those seeking asylum based on ties to persecuted family members — something that could be particularly important to those from countries with serious gang violence.

“By rescinding these opinions from the Trump-era attorneys general, Merrick Garland is restoring asylum protections to people who are victims of domestic abuse and gang persecution where we have seen increasing numbers request protection here in the United States in recent years,” Greg Chen with the American Immigration Lawyers Association told The Hill.

“This is such a critical step, both in practice to protect these people, but also symbolically in that the administration is looking carefully at the U.S. commitment to humanitarian law and protecting those in flight from danger.”

The move follows pressure from immigration advocacy groups to review all of the 17 attorney-general level immigration court decisions made under the Trump administration.

Filosofa's Word

I was thrilled to read yesterday … or was it the day before? … that the Department of Justice under Attorney General Merrick Garland will be taking on the issue of voting rights, given that the U.S. Senate is almost certain to refuse to uphold and protect our civil rights.  Our friend TokyoSand has written about some of the details of Garland’s plan, and included a short video clip of his speech that I hope you’ll take time to watch.  Thank you, TS, for all your good work!

You are never alone

This message is for all those who are in tough times, all those who feel as though life has abandoned them, And all those who have never seen a single light shine in their lives.

When life seems bleak and all hope has faded know that you are not alone, even during the worst of all times, when living seems to bring more pain than death, when death seems to be a better option, you must know you are not alone,When it it seems like the sun has set on you and darkness is infinite you mustn't lose hope cause the sun will rise again.Through the darkest time of your life you must know you are not alone, you just need to take a deep look and you will see that you were never alone and you will never be alone. We are always there for you just…

A Seabee on Iwo Jima: They Also Served Who Drove Cranes and Cats -62nd SeaBee Battalion

BY:  JACK CORNWELL

ON D+2 WE WERE JUST OFF THE SOUTH END OF THE ISLAND, in a Landing Ship, Tank. At about 5 p.m. we were told to report to our equipment. We started our engines, the LST opened its bow doors, and the ramp dropped. We were at Red Beach. A Caterpillar bulldozer went first, to build a dirt ramp. Once that was ready we moved out—trucks, more Cats, and my Northwest 25 crane. The noise was continuous. Wreckage was everywhere. It was getting dark when I got to shore, close to Mount Suribachi.  There was a 30-degree slope up from the beach; I barely made it to the top of that volcanic sand.

♫ Summertime Blues ♫

One of my all time favorites!

Filosofa's Word

Officially, it isn’t summer yet, but here it sure has felt like mid-summer for the past week or so.  Last week it rained nearly every day, and once the rain stopped, the 90° (F) temperatures kicked in with high humidity.  Hence, I’ve only been able to be outside for about 10 minutes before my lips start turning blue from a lack of that stuff … what’s it called again … oh yeah, oxygen!  Anyway, summer doesn’t officially start here until next Monday, at which time winter will commence for our friends in Oz and other parts south of the equator.

I must admit to cheating a bit tonight.  Y’see, our friend Clive did a really great post with a compilation of summertime songs, and my selection tonight is one that he included on his post, but I’m asking you to please go check out his post for more really great…
