Really cool photo – thanks.

Roadtirement

Here is a pretty neat stop action of a seagull coming in for a landing. Looks like he has his landing gear down and full flaps! We took this shot at a beach somewhere near Edmonds, Washington.

♫ Forever Young ♫

Filosofa's Word

Last night my friend Carolyn over at Nuggets of Gold wrote a post … she’s a storyteller, and a damn fine one at that. Her post was titled “Forever Young” and naturally this song by Rod Stewart came into all our minds. I don’t know about Tippy, Jim and Jason (her most prolific commentors), but the song stayed in my head all evening! Begging for release, it was (Carolyn, I owe you one, my friend!) and so I really had no choice but to play it here tonight. I really can’t complain, though, for I do like the song and the video is rather interesting.

Rod Stewart wrote this song with his guitarist Jim Cregan and his keyboard player Kevin Savigar. Rod considers it one of the songs he’s most proud of, saying …

“I love ‘Forever Young,’ because that was a real heartfelt song about my kids. I…

Police reporting spike in sudden deaths as blistering B.C. heat wave continues | CBC News

Police in B.C. say they’ve responded to more than three dozen sudden deaths since an extreme heat wave took hold, with the danger expected to continue under unrelenting heat over the next several days.

RCMP in Burnaby, B.C., said Tuesday its officers received 25 calls for deaths since Monday alone. Official causes of deaths have yet to be determined, but a statement said officers believe the majority are linked to the severe weather.

“Heat is believed to be a contributing factor in the majority of the deaths. Many of the deceased have been seniors,” Cpl. Mike Kalanj wrote in a statement from Burnaby.

“We are seeing this weather can be deadly for vulnerable members of our community, especially the elderly and those with underlying health issues. It is imperative we check on one another during this extreme heat.”

Daryl Davis Is Still Going Strong

Filosofa's Word

In 2017, Keith and I both wrote about a man named Daryl Davis, a Black man who is doing more than his share to help white supremacists stop being white supremacists, one at a time.  If you’re interested, here are links to Keith’s post and mine.  Last weekend, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Nicholas Kristof’s column looked to Davis and his technique in hopes of taking a page from Davis’ playbook to find ways to deal with people on the other side of the many divisive issues we are confronted with today. I think it is well worth considering …

‘How Can You Hate Me When You Don’t Even Know Me?’

By Nicholas Kristof

Opinion Columnist

One of the questions I’m asked most is: How do I talk to those on the other side of America’s political and cultural abyss? What can I say to my brother/aunt/friend who thinks Joe…

Intermission Story (10) – George Watson

Pacific Paratrooper

George Watson

During the course of a war gallant actions are not bound by race, nationality, or cause. Wherever men fight, some will distinguish themselves from the others. In WWII, when the Allies were engaged in battle against the Axis powers it could be assumed that on both sides men were heroes.

In the case of George Watson, it was his race that limited him from achieving his country’s highest military honor. When his ship was sunk by enemy bombers he assisted several of his wounded comrades to reach life rafts. However, it would be over 50 years before the story of George Watson finally received its due honor and its rightful place in military history.

George Watson was born in 1915 Birmingham, Alabama.  Apart from his birth, little is known about his early life. He attended school in Colorado and graduated in 1942. Like many men that year, Watson then accepted the call…

Nearly half of QAnon supporters believe Jews want world domination – The Jerusalem Post

The QAnon conspiracy has its root in many other antisemitic tropes, including the belief that there was a “deep state” fighting against former president Donald Trump, evoking the claim that Jews secretly control the world’s media, banks and governments. Additionally, believers in the conspiracy theory think that members of the satanic cabal torture and kill children in order to harvest their organs, a claim which directly relates to ancient blood libel conspiracies. “Although we wouldn’t say initially that QAnon had antisemitic tropes, very quickly it became apparent that there was a strain within QAnon belief that articulated some of these very clearly antisemitic tropes,” Joanna Mendelson, associate director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism, told Morning Consult. The survey found that in comparison to QAnon believers, only 32% of right-leaning and 11% of left-leaning American adults believe in the claims made by the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. When asked about the 2020 elections, a third of QAnon followers said they believe President Joe Biden stole the elections. “You can’t overstate, really, how much QAnon had a role in what happened on January 6 [in the
