Increased Greenhouse Gas Emissions Causing Stress

Changing the way we build environmental protection awareness is not an option we can afford to ignore

If we plan to have a future that is secure

Reducing the levels Carbon in the atmosphere looks like a good plan to implement

When more of Earths population simply believe that they can protect the environment

When we carpool and get to know our neighbours more

As we start thinking about how climate change affects the poor

We might see less droughts, and more water for crops to grow

Heatwaves and food shortage won’t cause so much sorrow

Sea level rise has been taking away beaches in many places

After a while children won’t be able to enjoy themselves, they will have sad faces

Many farmers are already facing a harsh reality when their crops die

And they find they need to increase the price of the little they have left…

Physical activity leads to positive changes in brain tissue that help stave off cognitive decline in older adults, a study published Wednesday by the journal PLOS ONE found.

These changes are visible on magnetic resonance imaging, which means physicians can measure the effects of exercise on the aging brain, the researchers said.

1 in 3,000 people have a gene variant that increases diabetes risk by 6 times – Study Finds

The new study finds the gene GIGYF1 plays a significant role in how likely people are to lose the Y chromosome. In turn, this also sends their risk of developing type 2 diabetes skyrocketing.

Researchers find around one in 3,000 people carry the GIGYF1 genetic variant, leading to a 30-percent chance they’ll develop type 2 diabetes. For comparison, the general population only has a five percent chance of developing diabetes on average.

“Reading an individual’s DNA is a powerful way of identifying genetic variants that increase our risk of developing certain diseases. For complex diseases such as type 2 diabetes, many variants play a role, but often only increasing our risk by a tiny amount. This particular variant, while rare, has a big impact on an individual’s risk,” says Dr. John Perry in a university release.

Additionally, people who carry the GIGYF1 gene have more signs of aging such as weaker muscle strength and more body fat.

‘Living with the virus’ makes no sense. Only half of the UK is fully vaccinated | Anthony Costello | The Guardian

Britain’s leaders and their advisers told us last year that we could not suppress the virus. China and Vietnam did, within six weeks. They told us these countries would inevitably face a huge second wave. They haven’t; just smaller outbreaks, suppressed with good public health practice implemented by people on the ground. As we know, exploding cases in March 2020 forced the UK into a 13-week full national lockdown, with huge damage to livelihoods, the economy and mental health. None of the east Asian states had national lockdowns, only local ones. In 2020, China’s GDP grew by 2% and Vietnam’s by 2.9%, according to the World Bank, compared with the UK’s 9.9% contraction. Last summer the UK government set up a privatised, call centre-based test-and-trace system divorced from our underfunded local public health and primary care teams – quite unlike anything done in successful east Asian states. It couldn’t possibly work, and it didn’t. The Treasury refused to give any financial support to poorer people to isolate – in case, as the then health secretary, Matt Hancock, told a Commons select committee, they “gamed the system”. So poor families gamed the test-and-trace system instead, t

WHO warns Coronavirus rising in eastern Mediterranean region – The Washington Post

Al-Mandhari said more than 500 million vaccine doses are still needed to vaccinate at least 40% of the population of countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region by the end of 2021.

“We are far, far behind from reaching this goal,” he said, adding that misinformation about vaccine efficacy and the virus have deepened vaccine hesitancy in the region.

Tokyo to host Olympics under COVID-19 state of emergency

The Japanese government plans to declare another COVID-19 state of emergency in Tokyo until Aug. 22, a period covering the duration of the Olympics, to combat a recent surge in infections, sources with knowledge of the plan said Wednesday.

The decision is certain to affect an impending decision by games organizers regarding how many spectators to allow in the stands, with a senior government official saying venues in the capital will likely remain empty. Some venues of the games are located outside Tokyo.

The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 920 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, the most since mid-May at the peak of Japan’s fourth wave of infections and topping the figure from a week earlier for the 18th straight day.

Russia declares Estonian consul detained by FSB persona non grata — Meduza

The Russian Foreign Ministry has declared Estonia’s consul to St. Petersburg persona non grata. The diplomat now has 48 hours to leave the country, the state news agency TASS reported on Wednesday, July 7.

The consul, Mart Latte, was detained by the Federal Security Service (FSB) on July 6. The FSB said that the diplomat was “caught red-handed while receiving classified documents from a Russian citizen.” The Estonian Foreign Ministry condemned Latte’s detention as “illegal and provocative.” The consul was released an hour and a half after the arrest.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that “there is irrefutable evidence” of Latte’s “illegal activities,” adding that they had lodged a “strong protest” with the Estonian Embassy in Moscow’s counselor. The ministry added that Moscow considers Tallinn’s official position on Latte’s detention “cynical.”
