Anti-Mask Dad Charged With Felony After Pushing Masked Teen

Cowardice knows no bounds, as evidenced by an anti-mask dad who shoved a mask-wearing girl into a fence at a Florida high school on Wednesday. He has been arrested and charged with felony child abuse. The Miami New Times reports that 50-year-old Dan Bauman was dropping off his maskless daughter at Fort Lauderdale High School when the incident occurred. According to police reports, Bauman was “causing a disturbance” while videotaping mask-wearing students in front of the school when a masked student approached him. She allegedly wanted Bauman to stop filming her and told Bauman that she “had enough of this for four days.” The girl reportedly attempted to grab Bauman’s phone when he responded by “aggressively pushing the student into a fence and twisting her arm in the process.” The incident was filmed by another student and shows security guards quickly pulling Bauman off the girl. Bauman is currently being held at Broward County Main Jail on one count of aggravated child abuse, a felony with a mandatory minimum sentence of four years in prison if convicted and a maximum sentence of 30 years imprisonment, 30 years of probation, and a $10,000 fine.

These Old British Coal Mines Now Pump Out Geothermal Heat

The last mine in Seaham closed in the 1990s, leaving behind holes that burrow deep into the earth. Today, these old mine shafts frequently flood, and when they do, the town pumps out the geologically warmed water. Heat pumps warm it further, and it is then piped into homes as a source of natural heat. Lo and behold, mines that once chugged out fossil fuels now dole out clean, green geothermal energy.

Black Americans Are Vaccinated at Higher Rates Than Whites, According to New Poll

A new poll shows that Black people are leading white Americans by 10 percentage points when asked if they have been vaccinated. The NBC News poll shows that 76 percent of Black folks said they have received a vaccine. Sixty-six percent of whites answered in the affirmative. An equally interesting line in the survey shows that 91 percent of 2020 Biden voters have been vaccinated versus just 50 percent of Trump voters. Yikes!

In Florida, Pandemic Is Worse Now Than It Has Ever Been Before – The New York Times

More people in Florida are catching the coronavirus, being hospitalized and dying of Covid-19 now than at any previous point in the pandemic, underscoring the perils of limiting public health measures as the Delta variant rips through the state. This week, 227 virus deaths were being reported each day in Florida, on average, as of Tuesday, a record for the state and by far the most in the United States right now. The average for new known cases reached 23,314 a day on the weekend, 30 percent higher than the state’s previous peak in January, according to a New York Times database. Across the country, new deaths have climbed to more than 1,000 a day, on average.

Calls mount for Indonesian ban on new palm oil plantations to be extended

  • Calls are mounting from within the government and civil society for Indonesia’s ban on new oil palm plantations, in force since 2018 and set to expire this September, to be extended.
  • They argue the moratorium has brought some improvements to the plantation industry, which has long been associated with deforestation, conflicts with traditional communities, and labor rights abuses.
  • At the same time, they say, the moratorium has failed to address a litany of other issues, and renewing it will give the government and stakeholders more time to make the necessary progress.

The Beauty of Traveling

Saania's diary - reflections, learnings, sparkles

After a stressful period of school and work, we all needed an escape. My family and I have always been spontaneous when it comes to traveling. This time, we flew off to Serbia and Albania, and I am beyond grateful for this lovely trip. (Scroll down to see some pictures of me and the place!) But generally speaking, here are some things I adore about traveling…

Traveling is one of the best things we can possibly do for our mental health every now and then. After studying or working for days and months, we all deserve a break to disconnect and recharge. For me, visiting a foreign place away from the things I am used to and see every single day definitely helps me unwind and puts my mind in the right mental state.

Traveling also exposes me to new things. When we travel, we step outside our comfort zones…

Relacionamento abusivo

Vivaldi translation: Abusive Relationship

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!
