EYE ACCESSING CUES

good reading

Lattughino

Da Judge Is Playin’ Doctor Now!

Filosofa's Word

This one came straight out of my local news channel and my jaw dropped to the floor.

A local man, Jeffrey Smith, is in the hospital fighting for his life against Covid.  He refused to be vaccinated, refused to wear a mask, and so this is where all his naysaying got him.  His wife, Julie, asked the hospital to treat him with Ivermectin, the horse de-worming medicine, the latest quack theory among the uneducated.  Doctors and the FDA have issued strong warnings against humans taking this drug, for it is made for animals who have a different system than ours and who often weigh more than five times as much as a human.  Needless to say, the docs at West Chester Hospital refused the woman’s request to give her hubby this unqualified drug.  Funny, he didn’t want the approved vaccine in his body, but he wants this crap that isn’t…

Day 67/67 of GED in Five Months, language learning, and Adulting

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

To take full part in modern society in a meaningful and useful way, every Adult must understand the meaning of a given word in the context under discussion. The word range, for instance, can refer to mountains, a list of numbers, or to a set of frequencies, among other things. The fact that the same word can have different meanings, even though sometimes subtly different, makes the learning of mathematical and scientific language crucial to the shared decision-making that every adult citizen in a republic agrees to take part in, and thus to continue the responsibility to keep learning, as part of responsible Adulting.

Today’s reading uses the mathematical meaning of range to define large and small distances. (Vice versa, actually):

Okinawa – June 1945

Pacific Paratrooper

Last picture ever taken of Lt.Gen. Buckner, the day before he died

By 10 June, the Marines had captured Yuza Hill.  The 10th US Army suffered severe casualties before they and the USMC advanced to Kunishi Ridge, the western anchor of the Japanese defense; a massive fortress.

Gen. Buckner had been sending messages to Gen. Ushijima, urging him to surrender.  So, when over a dozen Japanese wearing white hats appeared, the Marines assumed they were surrendering and they ceased operations.  Shortly after the enemy soldiers ran, a mortar barrage began.

By morning, the Americans had a foothold on the ridge, but reinforcements were cut down when they tried to advance.  Nine tanks were used to deliver 54 fresh men and supplies, but returned with 22 wounded.  As the battle for Kunishi raged on, the tanks opened a road to continue supplying the Americans.

Fact check: Conservative tweeters falsely claim Biden didn’t show up at Dover to honor troops’ remains – CNNPolitics

Christin Michaud, the public affairs chief for Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations, told CNN on Sunday that the military plane carrying the troops’ remains arrived at Dover shortly after 8 a.m. ET on Sunday on a flight from Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
Air Force One landed at Dover at 8:40 am ET, according to a report from the White House press pool. It carried the President, the First Lady, and, according to the White House, eight Biden aides. In addition to Austin, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley and other senior military officials attended the proceedings at Dover.
After Biden exited Air Force One and spoke to the military commanders who greeted him, he was driven to a building on the base. He then met with troops’ family members at the base’s Center for Families of the Fallen, according to the White House.
The dignified transfer, in which the remains are carried from the plane to a waiting vehicle and then to a mortuary facility, began later in the morning. Biden’s motorcade arrived for the dignified transfer at 11:04 am, according to a pool report, and the bus carrying troops’ family members arrived at 11:20 am. You can read more about the proceedings here.
Biden’s schedule
One of the tweeters who made the false claim about Biden not showing up at Dover, businessman and Republican political consultant Blair Brandt, deleted that initial false tweet — but then insisted, just after 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, that Biden still had “no plans” at the time to attend the return of the remains, “according to the current White House schedule.” Then, when Biden did go to Dover on Sunday, some lower-profile tweeters claimed that Biden must have changed his plans after the criticism on Saturday night.
But these claims were also false.
Biden’s plans to attend the dignified transfer were set well before the inaccurate tweets and resulting outrage on Saturday night. In fact, well before those tweets, television networks had plans in place to cover Biden’s travel to Dover.
Brandt was correct that Biden’s planned trip to Dover did not appear on the public schedule his staff released to the press on Saturday night — but public schedules do not include all of a president’s planned activities. Previous presidents, including Trump and Barack Obama, have also made visits to Dover that were not announced on their public schedules in advance.
“The base asked us not to announce out of respect. This is similar to what they have done in the past,” a Biden White House official said Sunday on the condition of anonymity.

Ivermectin Demand Surges Though It Doesn’t Work for Covid-19 – The New York Times (Me: Self-delusion reaches pandemic level)

For the past week, Dr. Gregory Yu, an emergency physician in San Antonio, has received the same daily requests from his patients, some vaccinated for Covid-19 and others unvaccinated: They ask him for ivermectin, a drug typically used to treat parasitic worms that has repeatedly failed in clinical trials to help people infected with the coronavirus.

Dr. Yu has refused the ivermectin requests, he said, but he knows some of his colleagues have not. Prescriptions for ivermectin have seen a sharp rise in recent weeks, jumping to more than 88,000 per week in mid-August from a prepandemic baseline average of 3,600 per week, according to researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Some pharmacists are even reporting shortages of the drug. Travis Walthall, a pharmacist in Kuna, Idaho, a town of about 20,000 people, said that this summer alone he had filled more than 20 ivermectin prescriptions, up from two or three in a typical year. For the past week he has not been able to obtain the drug from his suppliers; they were all out.

Mr. Walthall was astonished, he said, at how many people were willing to take an unapproved drug for Covid. “I’m like, gosh, this is horrible,” he said.

While sometimes given to humans in small doses for head lice, scabies and other parasites, ivermectin is more commonly used in animals. Physicians are raising alarms about a growing number of people getting the drug from livestock supply centers, where it can come in highly concentrated paste or liquid forms.

Calls to poison control centers about ivermectin exposures have risen dramatically, jumping fivefold over their baseline in July, according to C.D.C. researchers, who cited data from the American Association of Poison Control Centers. Mississippi’s health department said earlier this month that 70 percent of recent calls to the state poison control center had come from people who ingested ivermectin from livestock supply stores.

Dr. Shawn Varney, a toxicologist and medical director for the South Texas Poison Center, said that in 2019 his center received 191 calls about exposure to ivermectin; so far this year the center has received 260 calls and is on pace to reach 390 by the end of the year. The vast majority of the recent calls came from people who took a veterinary product in an attempt to treat or prevent Covid-19.

“Everyone wants some cure for Covid because it’s such a devastating illness,” Dr. Varney said. “I plead with people to stop using ivermectin and get the vaccine because it’s the best protection we have at this point. Everything else is risk after risk.”

Rand Paul: ‘Hatred for Trump’ blocks Covid study of horse drug ivermectin | Rand Paul | The Guardian (Me: Absolute liar – both drugs mentioned have been studied and the horse drug was recommended based on a fraudulent study – As fraudulent at Sen. Paul!)

“So someone like me that’s in the middle on it, I can’t tell you because they will not study ivermectin. They will not study hydroxychloroquine without the taint of their hatred for Donald Trump.” Trump both promoted and said he was using hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malarial drug, when in office. Doctors warned against side-effects and studies said it had little or no effect in preventing hospitalisation or death from Covid-19.
