The International Day of Charity is this Sunday, but I figure there is no harm about talking about it now. After all what is the point of finding out…

School Mask Debate Tests Arizona’s Governor – The New York Times
The conflict is unfolding in a onetime Republican stronghold now torn in opposite directions, pulled to the left by growing numbers of young, college-educated voters and moderates in the booming Phoenix suburbs, and to the right by vocal Trump loyalists.
With virus hospitalizations climbing to about 2,000 people from about 520 in early July, many parents, teachers’ unions and public health officials said Mr. Ducey’s actions punished schools that were following scientific advice. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends masks for all students, staff and visitors inside schools.
“It puts people’s lives at risk,” said Jann-Michael Greenburg, president of the board of the Scottsdale Unified School District, which has faced threats since passing a temporary mask mandate. “I wonder if we would have won the battle against polio if this is how our governments behaved.”

Jamaica’s Kids Climate Camp plants seeds of awareness
There is a perception that younger children cannot grasp climate change issues. It’s too complicated. So, at least in Jamaica, education on climate change only begins with high school students, who are studying science (and I am honestly not sure how much the topic is a part of the curriculum). All of this needs to change.
So, kudos to the Climate Change Division (CCD) at the Ministry of Housing, Urban Renewal, Environment and Climate Change, who took the bold step this summer of organizing Kids Climate Camp ’21 – hopefully the first of many – from August 9 to 19, 2021. The Camp aimed at planting and nurturing the seeds of climate awareness among Jamaican young children aged six to fourteen years. The CCD did not under-estimate the children’s intuition and awareness. See some of their artistic efforts below…

To my mind, you cannot start early enough. Those seeds will…

Study links polar vortex disruption with extreme winter weather – UPI.com
According to a new study, published Thursday in the journal Science, rising temperatures in the Arctic and subsequent disruptions to the polar vortex have increased the risk of extreme winter weather and prolonged cold-spells in North America.
Typically, the stratospheric polar vortex holds a tight circular pattern, keeping cold air trapped above the Arctic. The vortex’s structure is stabilized by the temperature difference between polar air and the more temperate air to the south. The Arctic is warming faster than the rest of the planet, and according to satellite imaging, the shape of the stratospheric polar vortex has become less stable over the last 40 years.

Domino Effect
Knowing that the cards on the table are all stacked in our favour, and winning is non negotiable we bag the bets all the time. When there is no accountability chaos ensues. The enablers are the ones responsible for the inequity.

10 Major Environmental Problems Caused by Mankind’s Unsustainable Ways of Living
Over the course of billions of years, the Earth’s numerous life forms have been depending on energy from the sun and the ecosystem services and natural resources available on Earth.
Generally speaking, nature has been sustaining life on Earth by relying on solar energy, chemical cycling, and biodiversity, and applying the following three principles of sustainability or lessons from nature in order to promote environmental sustainability and prevent or eliminate environmental problems:
- reliance or dependence on solar energy in order to reduce or eliminate environmental problems caused by artificially created forms of energy and combustion of fossil fuels and.
- application of nutrient or chemical cycling or waste reuse to ensure there is little or no waste disposal in the environment.
- allowance of all types of biodiversity (or biological diversity) to exist and provide vital ecosystem services; this can further provide numerous ways for the variety of plant and animal life…
