Day 13/67: High School in Five Months, fact, opinion, Adulting, and discovered?

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Adulting includes distinguishing fact from opinion. Doesn’t that including distinguishing discovery from appropriation, and deciding in what ratio or proportion those two may or may not collide? Every citizen and any freedom movement must take up those questions, no?

Quality Lemon Butter

snapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Equal Measures: Quality Lemon Butter! Is it a thick custard to be eaten plain? Is it creamy butter for freshly baked bread? Or is it frosting for a scone? You decide. I smothered a blueberry muffin with this citrusy spread. But then again, I also topped my morning yogurt with it. Talk about versatility. You can improvise with this luscious lemon butter in just about anything. Well, except broiled lobster or corn on the cob. That might be disappointing simply because this particular lemon butter has a sweetness to it that makes it more like a dessert than a condiment. Think lemon curd and you’ll be on the right track. Now let’s get started.

QUALITY LEMON BUTTER

Ingredients:

3 eggs

1 egg yolk

1 cup sugar

2 lemons, grated peeling and juice

1/2 cup butter, melted

Instructions:

In the top of a double boiler over…

Justice, Labor Departments Reach Settlements with Facebook Resolving Claims of Discrimination Against U.S. Workers and Potential Regulatory Recruitment Violations | OPA | Department of Justice

“Facebook is not above the law, and must comply with our nation’s federal civil rights laws, which prohibit discriminatory recruitment and hiring practices,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “Companies cannot set aside certain positions for temporary visa holders because of their citizenship or immigration status. This settlement reflects the Civil Rights Division’s commitment to holding employers accountable and eradicating discriminatory employment practices.”

Under the DOL OFLC settlement, Facebook will conduct additional notice and recruitment for U.S. workers and will be subject to ongoing audits to ensure its compliance with applicable regulations.

“This settlement is an important step forward and means that U.S. workers will have a fair chance to learn about and apply for Facebook’s job opportunities,” said Seema Nanda, Solicitor at the Department of Labor. “No matter an employer’s size or reach, the Department of Labor is committed to vigorously enforcing the law.”

Fernando Pessoa

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

O poeta é um fingidor.

Finge tão completamente

Que chega fingir que é dor

A dor que deveras sente.

E os que leem o que escreve,

Na dor lida sentem bem,

Não nas duas que teve

Mas só a que eles não tem.

E assim nas calhas de roda

Gira, a entreter a razão,

Esse comboio de corda

Que se chama coração.

UK Covid cases near 50,000 in one day as No 10 warns of ‘challenging’ winter | Coronavirus | The Guardian (Me: Bumbling Boris offers up more Brits for Covid-19… giving up… no guts to fight Covid-19 with good policy)

Downing Street has warned of “challenging” months ahead as UK coronavirus cases reached their highest level since mid-July.

The reported number of Covid cases in the UK increased steadily through October and reached 49,156 on Monday, the highest reported since 17 July and a 16% rise in new cases over the past week.

The figure is only 19,000 cases short of the peak number of cases ever recorded in the UK. On 8 January 2021, 68,053 new cases were reported at the height of the most devastating wave of the pandemic last winter.

The prime minister’s official spokesperson said a rise in coronavirus cases was expected over the winter and that the government would keep a “close watch” on the statistics.

Hospitalisations and deaths are also increasing according to Monday’s data, with 5,561 people admitted to hospital over the past week, up 6.9% on the week before, and the number dying within 28 days of testing positive reaching 869 over the past seven days, up 11.4% on the week before.

Celebrating 76 years, the UN focuses on frontline heroes and partnerships

Petchary's Blog

I have been thinking a lot about peace recently, and my thoughts will be in a follow-up post – including the critical role that our young people can and will play. I particularly like the United Nations’ alliterative theme for UN Day this year – all those “P”s! In Jamaica, as almost everywhere else, climate change, crime and economic struggles are perpetually at the forefront of our minds (with COVID-19 the backdrop to it all, and affecting everything). So the theme really works.

Here is UN Jamaica’s release with details of their Virtual Partnership Forum (October 20 to 22), which has a great range of local panelists. Register today!

UN commemorates 76 years by paying tribute to Jamaica’s frontline heroes and bolstering partnerships to achieve Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals

United Nations Jamaica will mark this year’s UN Day through initiatives including a three-day Virtual Partnership Forum…

Barbara Crane Navarro

La Amazonía es sujeto y objeto de múltiples y variados debates que transitan desde su diversidad biológica y cultural, pasando por su papel para conservar el efecto invernadero, hasta su potencial económico y la sostenibilidad de sus recursos naturales.
