Federal judge blocks Biden’s nationwide vaccine mandate for healthcare workers – UPI.com (Me: Clearly not a judicial finding – it is political – cannot have read Supreme Court record on the issue.)

“There is no question that mandating a vaccine to 10.3 million healthcare workers is something that should be done by Congress, not a government agency,” Doughty wrote. “It is not clear that even an act of Congress mandating a vaccine would be constitutional.” Source: Federal judge blocks Biden’s nationwide vaccine mandate for healthcare workers – UPI.com

Russia issues threat to GPS satellites – GPS World : GPS World

The Kremlin warned it could blow up 32 GPS satellites with its new anti-satellite technology, ASAT, which it tested Nov. 15 on a retired Soviet Tselina-D satellite, according to numerous news reports.

Russia then claimed on state television that its new ASAT missiles could obliterate NATO satellites and “blind all their missiles, planes and ships, not to mention the ground forces,” said Russian Channel One TV host Dmitry Kiselyov, rendering the West’s GPS-guided missiles useless. “It means that if NATO crosses our red line, it risks losing all 32 of its GPS satellites at once.”

The International Space Station (ISS) Flight Control team was notified of indications of a satellite breakup, causing 1,500 pieces of debris to threaten the station. “Due to the debris generated by the destructive Russian Anti-Satellite (ASAT) test, ISS astronauts and cosmonauts undertook emergency procedures for safety,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.

“With its long and storied history in human spaceflight, it is unthinkable that Russia would endanger not only the American and international partner astronauts on the ISS, but also their own cosmonauts,” Nelson said. “Their actions are reckless and dangerous, threatening as well the Chinese space station and the taikonauts on board. All nations have a responsibility to prevent the purposeful creation of space debris from ASATs and to foster a safe, sustainable space environment.

Vaccines proving effective against the Omicron variant says Israeli health minister | Boing Boing

There are indications that individuals fully vaccinated against corona within six months or with the booster are also protected against the Omicron variant, Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz said on Tuesday, after another two cases were identified, bringing the total to four.

“In the coming days we will have more accurate information about the efficacy of the vaccine against Omicron, but there is already room for optimism, and there are initial indications that those who are vaccinated with a vaccine still valid or with a booster will also be protected from this variant,” Horowitz said while visiting the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba with Finance Minister Avigdor Liberman.

“The vaccine is really crucial right now,” said Horowitz. “Anyone who is exposed to the variant without a vaccine will put themselves at unnecessary risk.”

COVID-19: B.C. changes rules around masks, capacity limits at religious services | Globalnews.ca

British Columbia’s top doctor says everyone attending a faith service in the province must wear a mask to reduce the transmission of COVID-19.

The province had previously made worshipers exempt from the mask mandate, which requires people to wear a face covering in indoor public spaces.

The exemption will be lifted Tuesday night, making masks mandatory all in attendance, including members of choirs. Masks can be removed for eating and drinking to allow for ceremonial services. Readers and celebrants can remove face coverings if they maintain physical distance.
