Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

I rarely ever rant, but please allow me a moment, here.  I must remind some of  my  fellow dwellers on this earth that none of us lives on this planet alone, and that none of our individual experiences tells the whole tale, of anything.  Context matters.  Therefore, other experiences, or rather, the experiences of others, also matters.  Hence aggregate data, hence research, and data over time, or history, also matter.    I say this because I see many people insisting, as a young man who got upset with me on the bus did, that their experiences must outweigh the truth of research, history, and even the experiences of most other people.   People say that they have not seen or experienced something which many others do, without remembering that they are not in a position to experience those same things in the same…

Christmas pistachio cupcakes!

LITTLE CHEF’S APRON

Hi everyone! I hope you are having a wonderful time and enjoying the holiday season!

I have been trying out so many Christmas recipes and this is one of them.

1/4 cup coarsely powdered pistachio

1-2 tbsp milk if required

Directions:

First, add curd, sugar and whisk extremely well. Add the baking powder and soda and combine until no lumps are seen.

Add the oil and vanilla and mix slowly as if done quick then all the air…

Fun with Languages Fridays: Lupin, 1:1, aka P1e1

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Fun with Languages Friday:   French Fridays with Lupin, Omar Sy style!

I love how the first episode moves between excerpts from the Arsène Lupin book(s), and the present-day character played by Sy.  I had a very difficult time getting into the original work by Maurice Leblanc, at least as read on LibriVox.org.  It seemed to me that the first episode was more of a cynical rip-off of Sherlock Holmes, and at the expense of a working class person, to boot, than anything I might eventually find uplifting.  I listened for a while, and decided that a story like that of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Yellow Face” was beyond Mr. Leblanc.  Nevertheless, in the hands of a character played by Omar Sy, the Gentleman-Cambrioleur became a compelling one.  The modern story for why he turns his…
