Need vs Urge

Inhale Peace; Exhale Love. Joy will Follow! - RUELHA

Food, water, air, rest, and shelter We need this at the core centre These are the most basic human needs And aren't dependent on your deeds But, apart from what the body pleads There are psycho-socio-eco needs Followed by mindset and self actualization These are things that lead to motivation If we analyze the basics, You'll notice this A man will die without water or food And we need oxygen irrespective of aptitude Hypothermia and hyperthermia, the elements and weather Frost bites and heat strokes can kill us if unprotected without shelter Exhaustion and lack of sleep can actually lead to death If you don't shut those peepers, you'll probably begin to hallucinate But what about sex? Let's look at the specs Turns out, no one ever died due to lack of it! And sure, even I'll admit Sex is a strong desire, like an urge If you don't have…

Spills from life: Would a change of number in a year alter events in life?

Universal Spirituality In A Sikh Spirit

My husband asked me about my resolution for this year and I hesitated to answer. Do you know why? Because I thought to myself, ‘ resolution is just words unless I’d add action to it’. We all can relate to a question that our parents, uncles, aunties, and almost all adults might have asked when we were children, ‘What do you want to become when you grow up?’ I remember it created so much confusion in my little mind instantly because there were so many buzz words that my parents and teachers had injected into my brain- ‘Doctor’, ‘Engineer’, ‘Pilot’ and ‘Accountant’…I think my memory couldn’t go past these few of the most important occupations in society. But in reality, I became a teacher in school, then a trainer for adults in known Airline, then a Manager in the same company, Semi-professional dancer and Choreographer till university days, Editor of…

What I don’t know about Mutual Aid

LANDBACK Friends

Disclaimer: Before getting to that, I think I should make a disclaimer, especially since I shared the 2021 Peace and Social Concerns report of my yearly meeting, Iowa Yearly Meeting (Conservative). I included that because Mutual Aid is mentioned in the report. “These injustices are some of the effects of systems of white supremacy. The concept of Mutual Aid is becoming an increasingly used model for communities working for justice. The idea is to have a horizontal hierarchy, where everyone has a voice. And work to ensure a vertical hierarchy does not develop. Without a vertical hierarchy, there can, by definition, be no superiority. Several of our meetings are supporting existing Mutual Aid communities or considering creating their own. These are opportunities to begin to disengage from the colonial capitalist system and white supremacy. Ways we can model justice in our own meetings and communities.”

But that doesn’t mean…

A good break helps you to think.- Uma…

More on the Covid Legacy

Nails it – long Covid-19 will impact us all for decades. We must prepare against the next pandemic and get everyone vaccinated for this one – now!

CRAIN'S COMMENTS

Research from the NIH confirms the following:

  1. Covid can persist in the body for up to 283 days after infection. That’s not a limit, it just the oldest tissue sample the NIH has at present.
  2. Covid can spread into the heart and brain of people even if the individuals have shown either mild or no symptoms of the virus.

I’ve been worried about this for awhile. It’s interesting to here scientists now expressing my concerns.

“We don’t yet know what burden of chronic illness will result in years to come,” Raina MacIntyre, PhD, a professor of global biosecurity at the University of New South Wales, told Bloomberg News.
“Will we see young-onset cardiac failure in survivors or early-onset dementia?” she said. “These are unanswered questions which call for a precautionary public health approach to mitigation of the spread of this virus.”

Bloganuary: Road trips on a small island don’t really work for me

Petchary's Blog

The second day’s #Bloganuary prompt is a tricky one for me. What road trip would you like to go on, the prompt asks?

I live on quite a small island. I have done a good few road trips here – but frankly, driving around Jamaica is not for the faint-hearted. The surface of our roads varies from smooth highways (mostly three-quarters empty apart from the stretch between Kingston and Portmore, which is clogged with traffic going one way in the morning and the other way in the evening); to narrow country roads that have been patched up so many times that negotiating them is a kind of obstacle course of dips and dents and lumps and bumps. And then there are those roads that the average car would really rather not be driven on at all.

The much-lauded, mostly empty North-South Highway from Kingston/Spanish Town to the North…
