Community control of forests hasn’t slowed deforestation, Indonesia study finds

  • A new study has found that Indonesia’s social forestry program, which gives local communities access to manage the country’s forests, hasn’t led to a reduction in overall deforestation.
  • The study found that forest loss in community-titled forests aimed at conservation actually increased.
  • Possible explanations include lack of capacity and resources for communities to manage their forests, as well as lack of financial incentives for them to not clear their forests.

LANDBACK Friends

Yesterday I wrote about preparing for a discussion about Mutual Aid at my Quaker meeting this Sunday. Describing the use of queries, and then coming up with an initial series of questions.

Now I’m outlining the major topics to discuss. An hour isn’t much time, and the point of queries is to allow people time to respond to them.

I think I should begin by telling the story of how the Spirit led me to connect with Ronnie James, and how he mentored me about Mutual Aid. And then my experiences of being in that Mutual Aid community. It is important to speak from our own experiences.

What are the main points I want to make?

  • We have no choice but to find alternatives since the status quo has begun to and will increasingly collapse.
  • The status quo has been very different for different segments of our society.
  • This is…

Marii Freire Pereira

Vivaldi translation: ”Overcoming the obstacles of things that are said to us is fundamental to our growth. Whoever waits for answers does not discover them. You need to walk towards each one. Only then do you go through the process of self-recognition, becoming an autonomous person, in the exercise of discovering yourself; also discover life, and its meanings “.

” I did my best, it wasn’t much

I couldn’t feel, só I tried to touch

I’ve told the truth, I didn’t come to fool you

And even though it all went wrong

I’II stand before the Lord of Song

With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah “

Day 25/67, HiSET/GED in Five Months, cubic numbers, and public transit

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Using public transportation in some cities can sometimes feel like solving a Rubik’s Cube: easy one day, not so easy the next, oftentimes. But the ability to use mass transit, and the availability and safety of buses, sidewalks, even frequently overlooked details like paths to the sidewalk, and sidewalk cuts, for those in walkers or wheelchairs, requires the same kind of community thinking that any democracy movement must practice.

Can cubic numbers and puzzles also teach us about finding the roots of transportation problems for others, which we ourselves may not have to worry about, but others do (like the lack of a cut or path that was no problem for me, during the day time, but presents a constant hazard for less mobile people at any time of day or night, at a certain Continuing Education campus…)?
