Working Wednesdays, Do Better, Chapter 7, section III: D, a map for the later years of Phase I, 4/4

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This post is the start of the rough draft of  Chapter 7, section III, part D, for my non-fiction WiP, Do Better, fka Baby Floors.   This section will complete the early years of mapping out a path to get there for Phase I, with our Public Domain Social Infrastructure.   It is here for future comparison, and for me to weep over what I’ve removed, with the book, once published.  This WiP is currently in the 3rd draft, and I am still looking for Beta Readers.

Once I publish it on the Internet Archive, I will list it as in the Public Domain (non-commercial: if anyone makes any money off of my work, somehow, I’d like my fair share, please), and the text (rft) will be here and on the (when someone creates a better one than this one, please) Project site, as well, so that communities can…

10 Ways to Encourage Knowledge Sharing Across Your Organisation

MiddleMe

For productivity to flourish in the workplace, team members must share knowledge. It enables each worker to complete their tasks more efficiently and learn new skills. Meanwhile, it makes the company’s operation run smoother and provides quality products and services to customers.

However, how can you inspire knowledge sharing in the organisation with your colleagues’ different specialities and work values? Here are 10 ways you can do to encourage knowledge-sharing:

Create A Culture Of Learning And Growth

The first thing you need to do to encourage knowledge sharing is creating a learning and growth culture that your company focuses on.

To create this culture, you must help your team understand why learning and growth are essential for everyone’s success and how their thoughts matter.

Provide Avenues For Knowledge Sharing And Knowledge Databases

When everyone is supportive of the initiative, you need to create avenues for them to start knowledge sharing…

Book review break, and a tiny rant?

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Ok,  I have to whine here, instead of working on my revision of Do Better:   Right after my review for a book that really needs more love!

     Book:

L’Île sur l’océan Nuit

This is one YA heroic quest, by Michel Grimaud, that is a step above others -set mostly in a dystopian colony of earth, the STRESS (I love this acronym) – Société Terrienne D’EXPLOITATION du Système Solaire – keeps colonies ignorant and enslaved. Mar (our young protag.) must grow both courage and knowledge as he builds networks to change the system, and save his loved ones.

The story also shows the ideas in “It Takes a Village: And Other Lessons Children Teach Us” and General MacArthur’s Long Gray Line speech: that those around us impart the values and dreams of our society, and that is how children frame the context of their actions.  So…

Federal agencies must test unvaccinated workers weekly starting in February, Biden administration says – The Washington Post

Federal agencies must start testing unvaccinated employees at least weekly for the coronavirus by Feb. 15, the Biden administration said in new guidance issued Tuesday.

The testing, which mainly affects those exempted from President Biden’s vaccination mandate for federal workers, would be required during any week in which those employees “work onsite or interact in person with members of the public as part of their job duties,” the guidance says.

Agencies are also free to require more frequent testing for certain occupations or work settings, the administration says.

How plant-based diets not only reduce our carbon footprint, but also increase carbon capture – Leiden University

Almost 100 billion tons of CO₂ could be pulled out of the atmosphere by the end of the century. That is, if high-income countries switch to a plant-based diet. The double carbon profit of returning farmland to its natural state would equal about 14 years’ worth of agricultural emissions, researchers from Leiden University write in Nature Food.

The area needed for animals to graze and growing feed is huge. It takes up about 80% of all agricultural land or about 35% of the total habitable land in the world. An international research team, led by scientists at Leiden University, calculated that if high-income nations moved away from animal products, much less land would be needed to grow food. Vast areas could then revert to their natural state, with wild plants and trees drawing carbon from the atmosphere.

‘It is perhaps one of the biggest environmental health opportunities out there,’ said lead author Zhongxiao Sun at the China Agricultural University. ‘A rapid shift to these diets could really help society stay within environmental limits.’

Giving thanks

Petchary's Blog

“Giving thanks” for Jamaicans basically means “being grateful.”

Our recent Bloganuary prompt (yes, I am still trying to catch up!) was: “What are five things you’re grateful for today?”

Today and every day I am grateful for:

First and foremost: My family, and especially my husband and my son. I don’t know how they put up with me. They are all saints. Especially my husband. PS Family includes our dogs, Freddie and Lulu.

Second: A roof over my head, enough food to eat and water to drink and bathe in. So many in this country (yes) and round the world do not have one or more of these basic necessities.

Third: My health. I have awful teeth (my dentist probably does a mental eye-roll when she sees me approaching her chair) and two broken wrists (the best orthopedic surgeon in the Universe fixed them both for me). But it…
